High School Class of 2013

I’m not visiting anywhere until I’m accepted. It’s too expensive. I’m basing my apps off of programs I like, financial aid, location, and the vibe I get from the Internet. But once I’m accepted I’m going to fly out to my top few choices. I live on the opposite coast of most of my top choices so it’s just inconvenient.

that makes sense, i was going to do that but i am probably applying ed to duke so i want to be 110% sure its where i want to go and i cant really justify that without seeing anywhere else, especially since as it is i am having a few doubts the more i look into notre dame…ugh i am so fickle

I’m not really sure about what I want to write about. I’ve been through a lot, so I have experiences that I could definitely use. I could write about my experiences with childhood cancer and cancer in general and how it has impacted my desire to become a pediatric oncologist. But I don’t know if that would work. I don’t know what to write about. . . .

I really don’t have an English teacher who would be willing to help. At least, I don’t think she would. I’ve had her for 2 years now, and I really don’t think she likes me.

Hopefully, I’ll get a better grasp on all of this after Summer@Brown because I’m going to go to all of those college application advice sessions.

How do we see when each school’s application has come out? Do we just go to their websites?

Tennis, I seriously considered ED to Dartmouth, Williams, or Brown but I really need to see how financial aid compares. IMO Duke is leagues ahead of Notre Dame nationally, but regionally may be different. I really like Duke and will be applying, but I’m not applying to Notre Dame. But yeah, with ED you definitely need to visit a few places to be sure.

I have a great English teacher and will have him again for AP Lit next year, so I’m glad about that. But in all honesty family and friends can help too.

@alwaysleah i get that ND is slightly lower in terms of rank ect but i really like the catholic atmosphere which is what is giving me doubts about duke, since i really like their sense of tradition ect which makes up for it. im just not sure what i truly want at this point…hopefully when i go to each i will know!

I get that. They really are different schools. I personally wouldn’t go to a catholic school. I do like the Jesuit philosophy, which is part of why I’m applying to Georgetown and BC. I’m sure ND has a strong alumni network too.

herp derp sorry I don’t breathe college applications 24/7/365

The forum is called “High School Life” after all, and prom is a part of high school life. ;)

I have not started my essays yet but I have finalized my college list and made a sheet of all the essays and hometests I have do for my schools. I probably will not even start my college supplements until next week anyway becuase I have been studying for the ACT coming up this saturday.

I have ACTs too! Good luck to everybody taking them.

Got asked to prom today! I finally got one of those cute invitations that you always see asians do on youtube. Never thought it would happen to me. Now, to find a dress…

Shawn Johnson’s gonna be college class of 2017! Anybody else thinking of stalking her? haha. Jk, but seriously… <3

Hey-
I want to go to Wesleyan, I’m thinking, but I might change my mind. I am into Biomedical Engineering! You guys are pretty funny.

Aww Shawn Johnson! I wanna know where (I’m not creepy…that much)

Hi readyset!

Hey readyset!

Congrats Mascara. That’s exciting! :)

In my English class we have to start our common app essays. It’s rather annoying, but I’d rather get it done now than later. I plan on completing the common app and as many supplements as possible during the month of August. This summer is going to be an interesting one for sure!

Right now I’m just trying to think of common app essay ideas. I’ll start writing once I get bored with my summer. Right now though, I have things to do.

I’ll actually be at Georgetown in a few days! It’s still in the potential category of my list, which has a total of 6 schools. I have to get rid of half the potentials if I want a list of 10, and possibly more.

Let us know what you like/don’t like about Georgetown! I need to narrow down my list like crazy… But Georgetown is a definite.

Ok, I’m going to be visiting JHU and UPenn too since they’re right they, so I’ll probably takes notes on each to keep them separate in my memory, I’ll definitely share them if you want.

On a side note, I’m brainstorming for my common app essay, and I was wondering if anyone could give my some help. Is the essay supposed to be an anecdote? Or can we just write about a general quality that we have. For example, I was thinking about writing about how I love running because it has a quantitative measurement, and it’s not subjective, and then talking both numbers and running. I’m still not sure just how generic that is though.
My other topic that I’m considering is a more specific anecdote, but I’m not sure if it has a clear message or not.

Overall, are they looking at writing style or your personality from the essay? And do I want to seem studious and intellectual, or more like an interesting and realistic, but not perfect person?

Thanks for anyone who has advice. Writing and over thinking things are really my weak spots so this is pretty much a nightmare for me.

Runallday: I’m not 100%, but I think that the essay is suppose to be the chance for the admissions officer to meet the “real you” behind the scores and resume. I think that talking about numbers and running sounds like a unique topic. Hope that helps!
