High School Class of 2013

Personally, I kinda want to apply to an ivy league, just to see if by any luck I get in. I feel like that’s really shallow though, and I don’t want to apply just for the sake of applying, but at the same time, I don’t want to exclude them entirely. Ugh narrowing down how many schools I’m applying to is gonna be annoying this summer.

@Enzajunior Apply. Better to shell out the extra 70 dollars now (unless you really can’t afford it), then regret it later on… Plus, I don’t think that’d make you ‘shallow’…

@lesley I just meant in terms of applying to an ivy league just because its an ivy league.

DBERHERGERGE I used the wrong ‘than’. I meant than, not then. >…<

And oh, well… ^.^ If it’s just one, why the hell not? :p

I’m applying to Harvard SCEA, most likely. I see no harm in applying to an Ivy if you’re a great student, since admissions are so holistic and (honestly) random. I would be completely ecstatic to get in, but if not I have a list of other great schools to apply to.

I attended a class at Harvard, and it was incredible. And it was just a “gen ed” course, too. The professor was really passionate, the students seemed engaged…it was just a really cool experience. I could definitely see myself as a student there.

^I’m doing Harvard SCEA as well, most likely. I love everything about Harvard - the house system, MIT cross registration, cutting edge research, passionate people, great location, near my extended family, etc.

That said, I understand that I most likely won’t get in. I’ve done my best in high school so I’m going to give it a shot. But I have a list of less selective schools that I would also be ecstatic to attend.

Ugh, I’m not sure why, but I’m having so much trouble getting a Common App Essay topic that I think it both origonal/ interesting to read, but also shows who I really am, and displays me in a light that would make colleges want to accept me.

There is surprisingly a lack of advice about it on the internet. Maybe I’m over thinking it and making it harder than it really is :(

Runallday, this is what I did: for me, music has been a major guiding force. I literally didn’t stress, just sat there and listened to some stuff that has been most influential/has the most memories attached to it, and after a few hours it came to me. No stress. I wasn’t even really trying to come up with it, I just did.

Go for a run and think. Don’t stress, give yourself 2-3 weeks of brainstorming without stress. It’ll be fine.

I won’t be applying to any Ives.

^ same!!!11one

@iluvbooks I’m totally in love with Barnard and plan on applying ED. As far as the whole guy thing is concerned, at least for Barnard, if you have problems meeting men i New York City then you have bigger battles than going to an all-women’s college, especially when in most of your classes you’ll have guys from Columbia…

^AHAHAHA swizzle that was hilarious.

@Swizzle: I looked at Barnard. On paper, I loved it. When I went there, I wasn’t that impressed. That’s just me though. Maybe it’s good for you. :)

I would never want to go to an all women’s college unless I lived off campus and stay there-only going to school like its grade school…I couldn’t deal with the drama and not seeing any men!

I like Simmons. Has nursing, is in the city, and cute guys down the road at Northeastern.

Ahem…not just because of cute guys.

I’m not looking at women’s colleges in particular. If a college has my major and some other requirements, I’ll look at it.

Oh my God <3

I know that there are plenty of other guitarists out there on this thread, and I figure that it could use a change of topic from women’s colleges, haha. Recently I’ve really fallen in love with fingerpicking stuff. I’ve already gone beastmode on Dust in the Wind, Blackbird, and The Heart of Life in the past few days (yaaay summer! :D). Anybody know some other good, fun songs to play fingerstyle?

Tomorrow’s my last day as a junior. :)

Congratulations!

I only have seven more school days to go. :)
