High School Class of 2013

@JosiahAd I’m not sure. Currently I’m reading 1984, I would assume it has some parallels to that. Not sure about Brave New World, but probably. He has many influences clear in his works.

@Elleya I will! Read “Norwegian Wood,” it’s really great. My favorite is “Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.” You can’t go wrong though. I just recommended “Norwegian Wood” to a friend and he already thinks it’s one of his favorite books ever.

Woo!

First, I have to finish reading Game of Thrones…well, the first one.

@Rachel your dad sounds like me. except I would never take metal with me or go out during a hurricane haha. not that I’m allowed to go out during regular thunderstorms.

I miss the monsoons. they were epic.

@Elleya and msteiny both of you would love Brave New World it’s so intriguing and by reading reviews on IQ84 it seems like its intresting like Brave New World. Lastly congrats at Elleya for finishing Game of Thrones really long book. I might want to read it.
@stressedouttt, lol your crazy. It’s to scary to go out in thunderstorm.

Indeed, i’ll put that on my list.

After I finish reading all of these other books I want to read…@.@

I have a list as well but I must finish The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Almost done 20 more pages :).

HAha yeah my to-read list is so long, but yes Brave New World is on there. I am absolutely loving 1984, you all should check it out if you haven’t.

I haven’t been in this thread for months and when I come back you guys are talking about Murakami… do I have good timing or what?

Norwegian Wood and 1Q84 are two of my favorite books. I had to read Kafka on the Shore for school in the 10th grade, and I liked it, but not as much as the others I’ve mentioned. I want to read more of his books!

I’m also a 1984 and Brave New World fan. Perfect timing. Just really.

I might read 1984 after reading A Tale of Two Cities.

Haha yeah I really liked Kafka on the Shore. That’s cool you got to read it for school. It’s a very surreal book. Wow I really need to read IQ84 now…

@coffeeandtea can you believe Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World in the 30s. He was brilliant to think of flying cars and flying cites in the 30s.

@msteiny1212: Yeah, it was great to have assigned reading that I liked that much. What annoyed me was that most of my class hated it. My best friend (who loves reading just as much as I do) just insists that it’s “too weird” and that all of Murakami’s books (she’s only read Kafka) are terrible. I like them, that’s what counts. And yes, read 1Q84. It’s long, but it is SO worth it.

@JosiahAd: I know! Dystopian novels are just the best, aren’t they?

I’m mostly jealous that you get to read Murakami in school. It’s “not school appropriate.”

I’m reading Les Miserables right now. I love it, but it’s a bear to get through.

I’m visiting Tufts tomorrow, so I’ll be able to answer any questions people might have about it. :)

I have a junior college English course. Once a week, 3 hour Wednesday nights. TEN books I had to pick up today.

Who’s read these?

Hamlet
Henry V
The Odyssey (which I’ve read)
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Doll’s House
Cure at Troy
Marriage of Heaven and Hell
Three Theban Plays
Melville’s Short Novels
The Open Boat and other Stories

I’ve read the Odyssey and Doll’s House. You’ve read the odyssey so you get that one. It’s kind of hard to understand, and it’s long with the first 9 or so chapters being really boring, but part of the plot is good. I also like DH although I read it a while ago so I don’t remember all of it.

I read The Odyssey in 9th, Doll’s House in 10th, Three Theban Plays in 9th, and Melville’s Short Novels in 11th. (The Melville novels were a killer… we spaced them out throughout the year and we’d read half for homework Tuesday, half Wednesday, and then have a test Friday. Not fun.)

I must read Odyssey as well.

Also it’s Sunny now in NY :) since we was talking about weather before. No more rain :):):).

@iluvbooks94; let us know if you actually like it. Everyone i’ve talked to that visited hated it. And my best friend said something about lots of elephants.

My counselor is happy that I’m considering something other than Florida schools. When I told her I went to summer@Brown she said, “That’s great! You got to see what it’s like outside of Florida.” I think it’s because almost every kid at my school aspires to UF, FSU, UCF, USF, etc. Not that there’s anything wrong with those schools though it’s just that that’s what almost everyone wants in my school.
