High School Class of 2013

@hanana Wow, I’m sorry! That really sucks. At my camp/the other camps run through the same program, some of the counselors are as young as 14. You should try it out if you ever get the chance - it’s stressful, because 6/7 year olds (my age group) need a TON of attention, but so fun at the same time.

@HHS2013 so sports motivate you. Right now i’m trying to to stay motivated because I know Syracuse won’t want me if my grades stay the way they are. This is my break it or make it year. And umm my cousin goes too Georgia Southern. She says it great.

I’m sorry I don’t mean to be hating on Georgia Southern, it’s just I attend one if the top schools in the state academically and athletically, so they look for you to go to a bigger school than gsu! I’m sure it is a great school! And yeah I understand about the grades and have you considered hiring a tutor for the subjects you are struggling with? Or maybe asking a friend who has already taken the class and did well to help you out with stuff? That’s what I did when I took ap chem last year, I got all of my senior friends who were actually in the class to help me if I knew it!

Hey, it’s okay. I knew you didn’t mean anything bad by it. I was joking around. A tutor sounds cool, but there so expensive and I have to pay for sports equipment. But I think schools more important. But this year I’m deadset on succeding. I want to get accepted to Syracuse by whatever means possible. But to be honest I don’t think they’ll want me either way. Right now I’ve changed my career aspirations to being a dentist. So I really have to work hard. I’m glad your so succesful in high school, I envy you.

Quick question are any of you buying anything for college yet, for your dorm rooms. I was thinking about that and having to buy all the stuff for your room at once will be a big expense. So I put together a list of stuff and am going to start buying some of it.

go rising juniors! :D

i hope everyone is enjoying their summer and looking forward to junior year! i’m personally looking forward to it, despite all the work i’ll be doing. competition is gonna be rough, since my high school class is pretty huge (hell, my school is huge) about 1000 juniors, and most of the kids in my class are at the top (including me  ).

aiming for ivy league and other schools like NYU(probably not b/c i hear their financial aid sucks), colgate (pretty good, but their name is silly), BU, marist, northeastern, wesleyan, etc. i gotta make junior year count to get in to these schools! :)

I am the queen of having to make hard decisions. You guys know how I said a while back I got called back for Spring Awakening, the musical? It’s a production I really want to do. But…if I get cast, I have to choose between that and my Grade 3B ballet (which is an important grade, as that’s the exam you have to pass if you want to move on to more advanced ballet). Ugh. I just want to do both!

Does anyone have a manipulative family member that knows how to ruin anything

@Syracusebound thanks but no thanks! You shouldn’t be envious of me because my life revolves around school and sports! I hardly have time for friends! And I used to have that problem with the money but fortunately the baseball program I play for now is sponsored by companies so we get everything free! And also I’m not buying anything for my dorm room yet because idk what I’m gonna want in there!

@HHS2013 hmm well my life revolves around sports. I play tennis, basketball and lacrosse. If it wasn’t for sports to be honest I would probablly be repeating 10th grade. They saved me from failing. Now to actually be good at the sports.I had horrible seasons.

And when I say stuff for your dorm room I mean the simple stuff to get out of the way

Here’s my list so far:

iron
hand vacuum
pillow cases
toletries bag
blow dryer
laundry bag
flashlight
desk lamp
accesory organizer’s
storage boxes
ear plugs

just the simple stuff really, that you’ll need without a doubt.

My life used to revolve around sorts but it hurt my grades so my parents threatened to make me drop them if I didn’t keep my grades up! And I play baseball and tennis and already have offers from colleges for both sports, but unfortunately they aren’t the colleges I want!

I actually am the complete opposite. I was failing all my classes until I really started in with my sports. It’s the worst feeling in the world not being able to play because of my grades.

Yeah I bet! But hey if I can get a scholarship to the schools I want I’ll be happy!

Hey fellow rising juniors! Are we getting ready for the coming year? Does anyone know of any free SAT prep programs either online or in the Tri-state area?

How’s it going w/ your list of colleges? How’s your summer going? I am completing an internship related to history!

I heard powerscore is good and I think they’re a national company. I know they have online classes too. I was going to do a class through them but I might just self-study.

I don’t even want to think about a list of colleges. Other than applying to Harvard SCEA (not like I really have a choice since basically half my family went there and it’s the only way my grandparents will help pay for college–they’re, um, sort of pretentious. Just gonna hope for the best or go to Cal or something and be paying back student loans for about 20 years), I seriously have no idea lmao. I’m starting an internship in microbiology on Monday, wish me luck!

@alwaysleah good luck, so do you have to go to Harvard.

I’ve always been really excited about the college process, but now that I can really start the whole college thing I’m sort of scared.

I haven’t posted in here for a while! But ahh, you guys make me feel pathetic what with all the math competitions and amazing extracurriculars. sigh How hard is everyone preparing for the SATs or ACTs at this point?

Also, we don’t have APs at my school in junior year, but we have “enriched” level 1 courses. If I do self-study a couple of APs myself this year, would I still be at a disadvantage for not having taken them this year or the previous years?

@Broody23
SATs annoy me more than terrify. It’s like your life is practically determined by what you get out of 2400 if you’re aiming high (not that other factors aren’t important, it’s just the large weight big time colleges put on that score). I guess I’m still going with the flow though as I do practice tests and review vocab.

Some APs are such as AP psychology and world history self-study friendly . Others, not so much, but most of them are still physically possible if you’ve got the time and capability (I’m pointing to you, AP Chemistry). Unless you live the language at your house (knowing that your school doesn’t offer APs), do not try to take the AP foreign languages.

I’m currently working in a lab at my dream college CMU  The college thing scares me a little too, but I’m excited to cross over! Nothing beats getting a big fat letter from your dream school after months of stressed out anticipation. Except maybe unlimited free authentic Italian gelato…but it’s a pretty strong challenger.

Umm sorta like that’s the only way my grandparents will pay for it and they have all the money so if I don’t get in then I’m gonna have a ton of student loans since I’m not going to qualify for much aid. But since I probably won’t get in, hopefully I can get a lot of merit aid at a lower ranked college. Or else I’m screwed.

@chewydog how’s the lab internship going? I’m starting mine tomorrow I’m sorta freaking out

As far as self-studying I would recommend just taking the class online at flvs or something. some colleges will even calculate it into your gpa so you’ll get the 5 point boost on your college gpa, even if it doesnt show up on your high school transcript.

Summer vacation goes really fast. :frowning: I have to start on my summer assignments. Our Chem SL Summer Assignment is reading a whole chemistry practice book. My life sucks. I was interested in doing a sport next year. Most likely soccer. But I never played a sport in my life. I was thinking of going out for the JV Soccer team. But I am not sure if I should do that. I mean, a lot is going on next year and I don’t know if I should do it.
