Hi all you CCers,

I was on CC for my DS class of HS Class of 2011. I learned so much and got a lot of advice and much needed support. I am back on CC with my DD, HS class of 2014, to get the same kind of advice/support.
DD is a B student (3.2) at the end of spohmore year. I have one question right off the bat... Her freshman year was not so good, 2.9. She increased her GPA in Sophmore year, and it looks like her Junior year is going to be even better. Do colleges take that into consideration? I remember reading something about Johns Hopkins not even calculating the freshman year into over all GPA???? ( not that DD is even considering JHU :)).
Also I would like to converse with other people in the same boat ( HS class 2014, B student). Most of the other threads are soooo intimidating. There are a lot of amazing , bright kids on here that that have many choices, but DD is not one.

There’s a great thread for Jewish B students. You don’t have to be Jewish to participate! That just happens to important to many of us over there. It’s a great conversation about schools for B students that’s been going on for more than two years. Some of us have a second child who is an A student, but we still hang out over there. It’s a great group.

Thank you LINYMOM! I will join you. Nice to know that not everyone has >5.0 average and 10,000 EC’s :)

I have found more California schools throw out 9th grade than other areas my son looked into.

For any holistic review schools, a GPA that increases in each year is seen as favorable.

For schools that are only stat basis (SAT/GPA no essay or little essay), the GPA is rarely reviewed on a grade by grade basis.

Thanks for the info Longhaul. Sounds encouraging. DD would LOVE to go to CA but it is a little too far since we live in NJ. I would prefer that she stay on the east coast.

Hi AJW1992D – I too have a HS Class of 2011 child (and thus College Class of 2015 hence my screen name) as long as she finishes in 4 years fingers crossed. I’m guessing your D was born in 1992 like mine. My son is a HS junior also. And if all the stars line up, he will be a B student.

I enjoy the Jewish B students thread – lots of great info, and the thread’s been around long enough that you can follow kids through SATs, college visits, applying, and where they got in. And it’s friendly – no one starts the kind of snarky fights that spring up on other threads.

I too have found other threads daunting. I was thinking of starting a “Slacker Mom with completely ordinary but lovable children” thread, but not sure how many people would join…

Thanks for the reply Class of 2015 mom. My D is the HS junior and my S is 1992 (college soph). I like your thread idea, I would join: Although in my day a solid B student was not called a slacker, wonder what I would have been called:))
I am now following the Jewish B student thread and learning a lot. It has also calmed me down a little. :)
