I liked the giver when I read it in 7th grade. I didn’t judge it in terms of politics. It takes some ignorance to enjoy the world, right Political? lol

A day no pigs would die was incredibly sad. half the girls in my class cried when they read it. I really didn’t like how in the end of the giver the reader didn’t know if they got to “elsewhere”

I remember I was confused at the end of the giver. have to read it again

shmluza: There are PLENTY of great books that are politically accurate and interesting. Take the Jungle, or Heart of Darkness. Oh, and Grapes of Wrath.
I love politically controversial books.
Let’s change the topic to music.
Punk anyone? Not the Green Day crap (which actually is ok), but classic Punk. Pistols, Clash, Ramones. Out of all genres, 70s Hard Rock beats anything for me :).
I basically like any type of rock/metal music, pre-commercial pop (Frank Sinatra, the nice stuff), and '80s and '90s hip hop. Needless to say, I absolutely despise most mainstream music today.

of Mice and men is an excelent book. and i really liked the giver it was sad yet hopeful.

Music: I love everything!

I think Top 40 is fun and catchy in the moment, but its not technically “good” and yes a lot of it is crap, but is catchy crap… but you won’t find it on my ipod (hearing it a couple of times on the radio is enough for me - thankyouverymuch)
I love older music. I have tons of music from the 50s,60s, late 70s, 80s, and 90s.
I love alternative music. Alternative Rock, Punk, and Indie stuff
I like some country
I like pop in general
I am a fan of contemporary christian
Not a huge fan of hip hop and rap but there are some things and artists who i like (i.e. Jay-Z and Eminem)
I like folk music, the blues, jazz, oldtime rock and roll, gospel, and classical music!
But one of my favorite genres? Broadway Showtunes and Classic Disney songs (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Mulan, Lion King…) and I LOVE BROADWAY!!

so as you can see I have a random, eclectic, bizarre taste in music.

You guys aren’t even in high school and you have your own thread.
Impressive.
I have some advice I’d like to share, but I’ll post it later. :)

@Political, you said ‘the only state with royalty in the union…’ forget it.

@thenerdofawesome, I love Classic Disney!! Especially The Little Mermaid songs.

@beatlesdisturbed- all advice is welcome and greatly appreciated! freshman can use all the help we can get!
@PreppyDude123- nothing can beat it I mean i grew up with those movies and songs (same with most of my friends and i’m sure some of you guys too), so i will always love them!

Preppy: I was referring to our governor… LOL.

my all time favorite song would have to be eye of the tiger. I listen to it before games or matches lol

^^^ Pumps you up for victory, eh? hahaha

My all time favorite songs would be Land of Confusion (Disturbed, Genesis, and In Flames all made great versions), Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana, Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf, and Iron Man (Black Sabbath).

Eye of the Tiger is a great exception to the horrible pop metal of the '80s. The '80s were awful with the exception of a few bands.

Okay, here’s what I got.
- Do the things you like. Seems easy, right? But it’s not. Maybe your dad wants you to join the Math Team, your BFF MUN, and the girl/boy you like, XC. But you should only do the activities you care about, for best execution. It’ll make you seem more like a person and less than an application. I know many of my friends this year who got rejected probably due to their bloated amount of ECs. 30 clubs mean nothing if you have no leadership positions or true commitment.
- Take as many challenging courses as possible. When you get the chance to have an AP, unless you’re sure you’ll do badly in it, take it. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your favorite subject or not, just consider your background in the subject. I don’t recommend AP French to those who take Spanish. But if you’re a good student in a subject, push yourself to take that AP.
- Take the AP Exams. Exams show commitment to the subject, they’re helpful in giving you an edge when in college, and being an AP Scholar looks REALLY good. I was a National Scholar back in Junior Year, and I think I still am (don’t know the results of my exams until July).
- Do both community service and working for pay. Service shows dedication to the community (and these top colleges like that especially the politically liberal ones). Getting a job shows responsibility and can be real useful in paying for college.
- STAY ON CC! I’m not even joking. I wish I had started with CC a long time ago, rather than just now. I would have learned so much. Not that it affected my decisions, but still. CC is one place where intelligent people are the majority (even if they are arrogant or snotty or *****y or whiny). There are a lot of people to learn from here, so learn from them!
I actually have more, but I’ll post later. Anyone want specific advice?

^^ Ya I don’t know what they were thinking in the 80s, though eye of the tiger like totally gets you pumped for competitions lol

@Political, your governor? The obese one?

@thenerdofawesome, My favourite’s Kiss the Girl and Part of your World, but Ashley Tisdale’s rendition of the former really turned me off.

Anybody heard of Florence + The Machine? She’s British but I think she’s done a few songs for American movies too.

Hi beatles thanks for the advice! More please if you think of any.

I like
-three days grace
-my chemical romance
-eveanescnece
-within temptation

and yes I LOVE Broadway!

I myself play classical. Right now I’m learning Beethovan’s Sonata Op.14, No.2 and Clementi’s Snoata in F-sharp minor, Op 25, No.5. The piano recital I just did, I played Mozart’s Fantasy K397. It’s an absolutely beautiful piece that can move me to tears.

I also play clarinet and oboe in band and orchestra.

And yeah beatles I like what you wrote. (and I like the Beatles, talking about music…)

@shmluza,
I’m surprised I found another Three Days Grace fan here on CC. They seem like a dying breed. What’s your favorite Three Days Grace song?

Anyone else on CC listen to Rock/Alternative? Bands like: Rise Against, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Foo Fighters, you get the picture…

@ifax, There was that one Breaking Benjamin song I liked. Can’t remember now…
