High school class of 2016

I’ve always wondered what a school with mainly Asians is like. What is it like going to school with a bunch of rich kids?

^It’s horrible. It completely desensitizes you from the rest of the world that doesn’t live in the upper class. It’s like they’ve never heard of poverty. Disgusting. I used to live in a low income neighborhood, and the things that I tell my friends about that neighborhood drives them into disbelief. Like the fact that there are these houses called trailers and people actually live in them. And that not every school has state of the art facilities and some are actually built out of trailers (like the school I went to). I actually feel sorry for them because they’re living in some kind of magical world, but they’ll soon find out what the real world is like.

Do they have their little cliques and stuff?

I believe I might be able to provide some insight here. I live near Greenwhich, CT. My dentist’s office is surrounded by a Rolls-Royce/Aston Martin dealership [Once they had a Bugatti Veyron 16.4, a 1.5 million dollar car]. On the other hand, I am close to poverty [I am Indian, conditions there are dismal, as well as Stamford, my town, isn’t too rich always].

Deal with it. Seriously, suck up the fact that they’re rich. Does it matter that they have dumb cliques. No. We are here on CC for one reason. To be the best [college applicants]. Don’t let them faze or enamore you. Just keep on keeping on.

This also applies to CC. When I posted my freshman schedule, it was behind everyone elses’ [BTW, my school is a 3/10 on that ‘GoodSchools’ rating]. However, I hauled myself through it all, procrastinated till 4am and took a derving break from CC [Highly recommend, at least expand out to other sub-forums, I did and had a good time by creating a summer program/award ranker] and am now in a good situation. Now, when I see your sophmore schedules, I no longer cry about my ghetto, public school sucking but I am proud that I will be taking AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, AP Comparitive Government, AP European History and AP Psychology next year [That was in part to scare you kids back. Seriously, you guys have driven me to be better because of your ‘measly’ research and grades [which I am lacking on, only a 4.21 weighted [LOL, only on CC]]].

Also, Hi!

I haven’t posted here in a while, so I am just writing a huge post.

P.S: Hi Swinter, you’re the only recognizable user here!

Sorry, I double posted

Oh, I forgot. My EC’s have also been really boosted by this. I joined Spanish National Honors Society [I start as a sophmore though], I am currently going to be State AP Scholar in CT by Junior Year, my FIRST Robotics Team went to the quarterfinals at Regionals [Losing to my mortal enemy, Stuyvesant High School, who had only showed up for lulz as they already qualified] and I qualified for States at debate [CT doesn’t do National Forensics League, so States is the highest I can go]. Also, I have done ~120-150 hours of volunteer service.

Life is good when not being scared by CC.

@anterograde I’m Vietnamese too! Hollaaa

Hey Apollo! I’m really touched that you remember me lol <333 I’m on here way too much so I’m probs one of the more recognizable 2016ers.

Lol, it seems most of the 16’ers are asian

I’m Hispanic.

I’m black…

Mostly a lot of the Asian kids are forced to go to SAT prep schools after school (SAT is taken really seriously here, there are dozens of SAT schools in my city) and people being obsessed about one-upping the other in grades and volunteer hours. Then you know, typical rich people gloating about their fancy vacations and mansions and the clothes the buy every weekend. At times, the really super rich kids are grating but I got used to it after I realized I would never, ever become friends with them because our personalities clashed and because some of them are really annoying and jerky. So I just worry about my grades. I don’t let the snooty kids get to me because I’m friends with some of the non-rich kids who happen to be the some of the smartest in the class of 2016. (It would be nice to have more Vietnamese in my HS, though!)

@swinter: a fellow vietnamese! :cool:

I’m black. At my school, if you’re Asian, they expect you to be smart. It is like your job to be smart if you’re Asian. If you’re black, and you’re smart, you’re already going against the stereotype.

God, I hate how everyone thinks that all Asians are smart. It sort of hurts my feelings when people tell me, “You’re only smart because you’re Asian.” It’s like NO I could pwn your ass even if I wasn’t Asian, ya dunce.

“NO I could pwn your ass even if I wasn’t asian”
Haha, this made my day. The Asians at my school are smart but not like the smartest of all the kids. Most are borderline smart, well in my grade.

Yuuuup, I agree. Some of the dumbest kids I know in school are Asian! So it’s not like if you’re Asian you’re always smart. Of course there are people that promote the stereotype but then there aren’t. (But yes, so annoying! In my old school there were no Asians except for me so everybody always told me I was smart because I was Asian and I could only think urghhh)

Whoops completely off topic disregard hahaha

-------------------------------------------If it is to be, it is up to me…

How do you guys feel about high school? I don’t really like all the work.

Can’t wait to graduate.

Same here @Swinter. I’m am nervous about AP Biology , Honors Chemistry, and AP World History next year.

High school school has made me a lot more high strung than I used to be. I hate being like this, constantly worrying about ECs and other stuff. The only thing I did this year was debate and volunteer at the library. And this summer all I’m doing is volunteering at the library (which is the most boring thing ever, by the way). I have good grades but so does everyone else.

Meh. Lately I’ve just been getting pretty apathetic about getting into an elite university. I watched this one youtube video and one quote stuck in my head - “Even if you win the rat race, you’re still just a rat.” I’m tired of worrying about everything. /rant
