High school class of 2016

penn ftw :)

BTW, I’d major in either:

[At UPenn Wharton/Huntsman/M&T, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Northwestern, McCombs/Plan II @ Texas, Virginia, +others I’m forgetting, but I like]

Economics +

International Relations

At everywhere else:

Computer Science+Economics

I have already ‘checked out’ of most of my classes, meaning the motivation is gone and will not return until August. What do people do differently at international schools? If you have any questions about schools in America, feel free to ask!

My reach is Georgetown/Vanderbilt

My reality is Howard (cause I’d easily get a Full Ride etc.)

Lol, Swinter, I’d kill for a sweet UPenn Wharton Bumper Sticker. Several of my Indian friends [from throughout CT] have ended up there, and I really want that Huntsman Program!

@Atlantic:

I hear Emory is nice too, and they have good programs in the same fields as Georgetown and Vandy [Unless you are talking about medicine]

@Apollo dood i like the huntsman program too!

I’m aiming at Cornell.

I really want to get into Harvard, but that’s everyone dream isn’t it?

Yeah, but Emory’s been having some “issues” lately.
Race disputes, budget cuts, the incorrect reporting.

I’m leaning towards Government/Poly Sci and Education

[ECE at MIT/ CompSci at Stanford/ ECE at UofT!]

OMG I’ve actually been waiting awhile to ask about cumulative GPAs in the US…Where I live in Canada, we don’t have them, I’m pretty sure our GPA just depends on our current average in school. So how do cumulative GPAs work?

@Swinter:

Considering I already know what you look like, it would be really weird to meet you irl, but also pretty cool!..

@PrepQWill:
Cornell is sweet! I always get reminded of Robert Frost and Ernest Hemmingway when I see the beautiful college of Ithaca!

^ I am actually an international. I live in hong kong :slight_smile:
@likingyou school doesn’t end until July9 but people get to leave early for summer programs

Mine is UW Cummulative.

Just take all grades (Unweighted) and divide it by the number of classes.
They also include standard GPA though

@likingyou:

I think cumulative GPA is just your GPA over 9th, 10th and 11th grade.

@Atlantic:

Check out Penn’s Huntsman Program!

@likingyou GPA is basically all off your grades in high school pretty much averaged together. Typically, an A is worth 4 points, a B is worth 3, and C 2, and a D 0. That’s what super smart kids usually say when they have a 4.0. Now, if you’re taking an honors/AP/IB class, then your GPA is going to be higher. A is worth 5 and so on. Of course, GPA is calculated differently depending on what school you go to.

@Apollo It’s going to be so trippy if any of us ever meet at admit days, summer programs, etc.

@whostolemycookie:

Sorry, didn’t know! I’ve been jumping in and out of the thread. :P

I’ll look into it. But I’m only gonna be able to attend a school that gives close to a full-ride bases on Merit. (ergo Howard U)

@Swinter: Why is there weighted and unweighted though? Correct me if I’m mistaken, but don’t college admins only see your UW GPA?

@Swinter:

An A is a 5 at your school? That’s so lucky, my school is so messed up!

93-100=4
90-92=3.7
87-89=3.3
83-86=3
83-80=2.7

Also, there is a +0.56 for every AP and +0.4 for every honors, which is +.07 and +.05 respectively, when based on per class

If I’m not mistaken…they see both, but recalculate your Weighted based on their own standards.
