We read: Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, and A Long Way Gone-Memoirs of a Boy Soldier.

Anthem is the worst book ever…
Ugh Ayn Rand is just…

I hated Great Expectations so much that my English was a D then I brought up to a C and then to a B and one day my grade magically raised 9% to an A.

Really? I love Ayn Rand.

I just can’t deal with her.
I get her point, but it’s exaggerated way too much.
i disagree with her (and the political party that worships her)
Like Communism, Objectivism only looks good on paper, until people get greedy and screw it up.

True, but what dystopia ISN’T exaggerated?

I liked the story, I guess, moreso than its allegory. Have you read The Fountainhead?

I meant her philosophy as a whole was exaggerated.
It couldn’t work in this world.

No, I haven’t read it yet

i like ayn rand. in school we read romeo & juliet, night, of mice and men, and the odyssey

One of my best friends had to read Anthem last year and absolutely hated it. I’ve never read any of Ayn Rand’s books though.

I don’t understand why people can complain about having to read Anthem. Even if you absolutely hate it, it’s like the shortest book ever. In eighth grade, our teacher actually forced us to read it in an hour. Unrelatedly, we then cast our dreamcast of a movie version. I picked Derrick Rose and Ke$ha to star. I’m an awesome casting director, don’t tell me.

And for what we read this year. Flowers for Algernon was the summer honors book, Bruiser was the overall freshman book. We read Kindred, The Old Man Who Reads Love Stories, Fahrenheit 451, Macbeth, Of Mice and Men, Lord of The Flies, and a little of The Burn Journals.

For the record, I wasn’t complaining about having to read Anthem, just that the book was garbage.

And the fact that her philosophies originate from the fact that her well to do family lost everything when Lenin came into power. So she decided to create an ideology that was the antithesis of Communism/Leninism, yet just as flawed.

What extracurriculars are you guys planning on doing sophomore year?

I’m planning Mock Trial, Mandarin Club, School Newspaper, SportsVideo Club

we read To Kill A Mockingbird, Antigone, The Historian, Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer’s Nite Dream, some of the Odyssey, March, 30+ poems, and 15 well known short stories

for freshman year summer reading we read Bless Me Ultima, Importance of Being Earnest, The Glass Castle, and Brooklyn

I read a lot of books, mostly the same as you guys [I’m too lazy to type them all out :P], but not for class [I do it for the lulz].

Also, sophomore year, my EC’s are nice:

Treasurer of my First Robotics Team [I live in the hardest region besides Cali, but we did really well last year, so I’m expecting nationals this year]

President/Founder of Model UN [Just started it]

President/Founder of HOPE [Helping Other People with Engineering, a club I founded]

Member of Quiz Bowl Team Stuff

Varsity Debater [I’m being moved up a year early because I won a lot]

Varsity Math Team

FEMA Teen Community Emergency Response Team Founder/President [Emergency Response training for teens, so stuff like AED and CPR certification]

Tennis [IDK whether or not I’ll even do it, let alone be JV or Varsity]

Working at a Park [My city is so messed up environmentally and this park was one of the things that was ruined until the city opened it up and began working on it, allowing teenagers to work there. It means a lot to me and it pays like 10 bucks an hour! I also get to organize events there, so I might be hosting a TED talk or something there]

SED Committee Leader/Founder/President [SED is Spanish TED, I’m hosting one at my high school in November [International Youth Week], as long as all the paperwork goes through without a snag]

Learning German through local German school [IDK about this]

Playing too many video games [No words…]

Oh yeah, I might be writing for my school’s newspaper and I’ll be in Spanish Honors Society.

I also am doing something called R-SPACEE [I forgot what it stands for] where I teach students from my former elementary school about science concepts [It’s on Fridays, 3 hours or so, so I’ll drive out with my senior friends for an hour before it starts [It starts at 3, school ends at 2] and then go hang out with ‘my kids’, who I’ve taught to follow all of my commands. It’s like a cult! I kid, those kids are really cool though and know a lot [I was teaching about volcanoes and my 3rd graders were discussing pyrochlastic flow]

I was so dumbfounded when the whole point of To Kill a Mockingbird was to tell us how a child broke his arm.

^To Kill a Mockingbird was far deeper than the arm.

It was about the inner most fears of humanity and bigotry as a whole, IMO.

However, it was a bit dumb to have the non-metaphysical aspect of the story be about a blatant lie. Or perhaps that only adds to the morose ending and tone.

Lol my EC’s are kind of terrible. I’m only in show choir and theatre. However, I really go in depth with both of these. I might join recycling club this year because apparently most of the club graduated, but I’m pretty sure the meetings are the same day as show choir practices :(

I really want to join more activites, but they all leave a sour taste in my mouth.

^It’s okay, I ■■■■■ Swinter about how her ECs’ are so bad compared to mine

Seriously, I only do this stuff out of love. There is no point of an EC you don’t like.

Also, I might not be treasurer in Robotics. It’s complicated, but the former head parent and disgruntled son [We need a mentor, but her son didn’t get elected president because everyone hates his horrible behavior, but unfortunately, we need his knowledge] were horrible to everyone, but people who I like are now in leadership!

Also, I think I’m going to start doing kirigami for cancer patients. I do it in my spare time, and I think it might be nice.

In addition to all of that, I used to do competitive chess, becoming top 5 in CT, but I stopped. I think I am going to return to the chess circuit.

Lastly, I might start writing a book. It sounds like fun and I already have one typed up with a friend, which is about 60~ pages in a Google Drive

P.S: This girl who I used to know from middle school is now a highly successful writer on Wattpad, with several thousand hits. I didn’t like her much, but we respected each other. Also, the first book I saw her write is now her most popular.
