High school class of 2016

@ejames
Just try and see if there is an active job for you and I think you’ll have a more enjoy full time than me,plus you actually want to work in the medical field. A lot of the kids where I volunteer usually end up bringing a book with them. We do two jobs for three hour each and sometimes the staff where we volunteer don’t have anything active for us to do. Sometimes I feel like falling asleep. :p

Along with what annbern said, your passion for anything (i.e. volunteering, clubs, etc.) will help immensely. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t do things just for college as it will be evident to any admission officer and more than likely decrease your chances of acceptance.

@missycecelia - Grants are a form of financial aid given by universities that you don’t have to pay back. Merit is a type of scholarship - a merit scholarship is one that is given to you for doing well academically, and then I believe there’s need-based scholarships too. :)

Someone should have seen my face when I learned that I can get a scholarship just for being black.

@highschool2016 you can? :joy: * high five *

What clubs and ECs are you guys doing next year? I’m going to be pretty busy. Have you started planning what you’re doing next summer? I know I have…:D

I’m doing Student Council, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Newspaper, Teen Court (if they can find a new sponsor), and I’ll be treasurer of the Leo Club (a volunteer club).

I feel like I just posted the same thing on here not too long ago…or is it just deja vu? :P

Also, it turns out I never got the summer homework for Geometry. Everyone else apparently got it…luckily it’s on the school website! It would be a lot easier if I had kept my algebra binder from last year. Ugh. I’ve learned my lesson.

I’m not sure as far as ECs go but I feel like this will be my last year to really join some more things and truly get involved.

But I’m excited for next summer  …assuming everything works out well.

@letmeseetheworld: What do you mean? I feel that more opportunities are available during our rising junior summer (next summer).

For ECs, I meant that I really want to become more active this year where as last year, I barely did anything. I don’t want to join a ton of things junior and senior year. I’ll probably be busy and plus it’ll look like I’m trying to pad my resume, lol. Is that what you’re asking about ?

There are a few clubs at school I’m really interested in too. :D

Debate (Novice PF)
Quiz Bowl (JV Captain)

Science Olympiad (Hoping 4 Forensics & ChemLab)

insert 4th Filler Club Here

Out of curiosity, has your school started making you look at possible schools (colleges) tht u might wanna attend yet?

No, the farthest they pressure us is taking all juniors to a college fair in the spring. They never force us to take the PSAT or plan it’s all up to you. Not everyone here goes to college though. It’s a nice town but the druggie guys in our school are all planning on joining their family’s construction companies
or having the same job in a construction company.

At our school we aren’t allowed to join clubs that meet in school until sophomore year. Freshman year I was in
Youth and Government
Inducted into French honor society
Girls varsity track and field
& that’s it so I have do some more ECs.

Honestly I don’t really enjoy anything like normal people do no art or music or athletics. I do like math in class, but I don’t even know what clubs my school has.

^^ SAME. omgg someone who gets me

Like honestly music, art, sports… I just can’t. I wish I could though, it woulda helped

Exactly lol

@ejames2016 so what ECs are you doing through your school?

i wish i had enough money to go to private flute lessons, buy a nicer flute, etc so i can be more competitive. right now i only play at my school level.
