I can’t get my permit until next year :(

^ I can’t either, hahah. How old are you guys? 14? 15? …is it possible to be 16?

Lol, you guys have three years of high school left.

So, are you guys doing any summer programs at colleges next year? You know, the ones where you can take one or two classes for credit?

@foodlover - I really want to, but they’re really expensive! Anyone know any good scholarships I could apply to? I know about Questbridge, but my family’s income is a tad bit higher than the range they advertise.

10character

I’m getting my learner’s permit at the DMV tomorrow!
That is if I pass the test
I should have gotten it in January, but it’s all good.

By the way, did anyone follow the Zimmerman trial? I was stuck like glue to the TV for the past few days.

Good luck at the DMV!

I did. I generally like following court cases, especially high profile ones. I found the verdict while I was out at dinner, though.

I never really follow court cases, even the high profile ones. This one intrigued me though. I feel like most of the public never really had a true portrayal of the evidence though. I also really enjoyed watching the courtroom banter and arguments. It really inspired me to maybe pursue a career in law or something instead of STEM like I was thinking of. Does anyone know of any good ways to get involved into that while in high school even if it is just a hobby?

I’m not upset by the verdict. There was not enough evidence to convict and it was really a trial by media, further worsened when people didn’t check the facts.

Overall, this case was a sad accident that hurt everyone

@autoexec:

I’d recommend debate, Model UN, JSA, mock trial, etc

@foodlover: the best ones are usually free!

Example: IBO, RSI, NIH research, etc

Debate and Mock Trial are always good.

I mean, I was disappointed in the verdict, but I suspected it.
What Zimmerman did was idiotic, unforgivable, and infuriating. But with one dead witness, most of everything was heresay. It was obviously not Murder 2, and though I was hoping for Manslaughter, it was too much of a stretch given the lack of “concrete information”.

I’d agree with Apollo, that this has really been a “Trial By Media/Populous”, but it just goes to show how bad race relations still are in the US. With this coming around the same time that the Abigail Fisher and VRA being talked about by SCOTUS, it really is enlightening to see how serious everything still is in terms of race.

That really sums up my thoughts as well

I don’t understand why everyone thinks what Zimmerman did was so bad? There is no evidence showing that he started the conflict. And seeing that the only injury Martin had was a bullet hole, and Zimmerman had multiple wounds, though they were not by any means “serious”, it seems like his self-defense story checks out.

What I can’t believe is that people aren’t spending nearly as
much time stopping people like the Westboro Baptist Church and other hateful bigots

They are the real scum

^^ Profiling someone, ignoring the police, and killing someone are bad things to do… Killing a 17yr old boy is a bad thing to do.

The question becomes: Was this a wrestling match, or was Trayvon going to kill Zimmerman. And there’s no proof on what the answer is. So, I’m not surprised in the verdict.

Saying that there is not enough evidence is understandable
Saying that Zimmerman was justified is despicable.

Changing the subject so that we don’t get in trouble

Yeah…

(Quick Change of Topic)

What do you guys like to eat?

Chinese food!

Anything (Yes, I responded to my own question,)
