High School Class of 2017

Elainajulia, try to find out if your school offers online courses through programs like Virtual High School (VHS). At my high school, several AP classes that are not taught at the school are taught through VHS.

I took Geometry in eighth grade, but I know someone who is taking AP Calc AB in eighth grade, he’s amazing when it comes to math.

Two weeks until finals… :O

There is like currently 10 other people besides me in my Geometry class. 8th grade. I wouldn’t want to accelerate as I’m going to be mixed in with other Pre-IB kids. The EOC is coming soon in Florida. ~ I gotta admit. The Algebra 1 Honors EOC was a super omega joke in Florida in 2012. I had like the highest score in my Junior High and I can’t believe people actually got lowered then a 3… I can’t wait to see if the Geometry Exam is a joke or not.

Some of my teachers thought I was stupid in math when they couldn’t clearly show me the path. I’ve been struggling with it since I was like in 5th grade but it was because they been teaching me how to do order of operation wrong and I was sick when we got into the decimal chapter. No one showed me in any makeup work or anything. I was left to my despair until my sixth grade teacher clearly showed me the way. Even though she also taught one advance class, she thought I should have been in advance. She helped me became a bigger person then I already am and is grateful. I’ve never knew the reference sheet was actually a cheat sheet. She even helped me get into Algebra 1 Honors even though I’ve never conducted a placement test but got a 5 on the FCAT. My score as a 5th grader kept on declining to a 3 until suddenly I got a 5 in 6th grade.

My self reflection OXO

A good teacher can make all the difference. I’ve never had any really awful ones (I was kind of the “good kid” too, so none of them hated me) but some of them were pretty lame. The teachers I have this year are all great, and fun too. My English teacher doesn’t mind when we go off on quantum physics and string theory tangents, and my Bio teacher is letting us play Jeopardy instead of doing an “official” Finals review.

We don’t get finals (other than standardized testing, which is over) in our district until 9th grade, so I don’t have to worry about that!

There are some kids who are taking AP Calculus BC next year at my school in 9th grade. I honestly don’t think that’s a good idea (i.e. it’s too accelerated and looks like you’re taking math just to jump levels) Pre-calc Honors is the highest that I think is best for 9th graders.

June 14th, so… including weekends, 28 days?

I love it when people have like 2.9 GPAs and 10000 community service hours. It almost makes me throw up.

Seems like we won’t have much to talk about until summer (schedules I guess) or around August.

Yeah. You guys are boring. We 16ers get at least a post a day.

^^^

You guys are IN high school; we’re not.

Even then, the 2016 thread was posted in every day, courtesy of yours truly. I have no life.

Yeah, this thread gets one post every week or so, if we’re lucky! We try…

We’ll lend you a hand. We being Swinter, cause I’m too lazy to post much.

I feel so old hahaha but as others have said before me, do your best to get involved in your school community/clubs so you’re not rushing junior and senior year to get leadership positions…colleges like to see dedication and commitment. Oh, and really try to get A’s in all your classes because freshman year classes are on the easier side of the spectrum and once you get into sophomore and junior year where you might start loading up on A’s, you’ll be thankful that you had a 4.0 freshman year. (So you don’t have to worry so much about trying to raise your gpa for class rank and such…you’ll just have to keep your grades consistent.)

Twenty pages isn’t bad. I mean, it’s COLLEGE confidential, not junior high or high school confidential.

^If you’re talking about the thread, we are only at 15 pages on my phone. Oh well, once we get out schedules we can talk about them!

Our schedules *

Class of 2016 here. No advice to the freshman accept for have fun…no one in my school likes freshman. Glad that year is over. It will be over for you before you know it.
