Hey class of 2018! I’m from class of 2017 and am wrapping up my sophomore year of school. I just want to say one thing; sophomore slump is VERY real. Do not fall to it!
Sophomore year is generally considered the “worst” year (that doesn’t mean it’s bad) out of high school because it doesn’t have any huge significance to it. Freshman year you’re new to high school and it’s a whole new world to explore. Junior year everyone is more mature, you’re an upperclassmen, almost an adult, and you have so much to work for such as SAT and your GPA while prepping for colleges. I don’t have to explain Senior year. Sophomore year is kind of like that awkward middle-child of High school.
But I will say do NOT slack off Sophomore year like I did. The coming year is still very essential, and many kids I know tripped over this year and had their GPA fall hard. Just keep working, and get more involved in extracurriculars. Good luck.
@gotmar I don’t really write poetry. Congrats on getting published in Teen Ink! That’s great!
@bfpoodle123 I think my Hebrew skills are decent. I’m fairly good at reading and writing. I’m working my way through a translated version of My Sister’s Keeper right now. I don’t understand all the words but I’ve read it so many times in English that I can figure things out based on what I do understand. I’m okay at speaking, but I don’t even bother with the Israeli accent (it just sounds very fake). And I’m not great at listening unless I’m reading along with something in class, mostly because Israelis just talk so fast. In my school there are lots of people in Hebrew speaking families, but out of the people who don’t speak Hebrew at home I’m towards the top of the class.
Have any of you looked into getting a part time job yet? I would like a part time job to help pay for college/ gymnastics, but I’m too young (Turning 15 in June) :(( How about you guys?
That’s so cool!(both colorguard and job) Everyone I’ve talked to said that people won’t hire your until you’re like 15 1/2 so I guess 6 more months left!
@sewin2music I applied to a few places to work this summer, but I never heard back. I later found out that you need to be 16…
It’s sad: although my state allows you to work from 12 onwards, no one will hire me! So I’ve resolved to study languages all summer.
@gotmar I know right! I’m going to do some volunteer hours this summer …Hopefully 50 hours! @TrainerGary Ya, I don’t know how I’ll balance school, sports, volunteering and a job… but we’ll see! I could really use more in my college fund though…Just started one a few weeks ago, so we’re kind of late starters
As for part time jobs, I’m selling younger siblings clothes and stuff on eBay if that counts lol. I dont know who would hire a 15 year old around here (besides being a lifeguard but I haven’t been swimming for a while and the theme park but that’s like 45 minutes away and it doesn’t sound that great as a job)
