I am also a rising freshman! Here is my schedule:

English 9
World History 1
Chinese 2
Advanced Geometry
AP Bio

There are no advanced/honors english, history, or foreign language at my school for freshman.

I think they are all honors. I am going to a magnet and the teachers are especially for magnet. They don’t let you take APs in ninth

Does any one here do robotics or music. I really love music but I really like robots. But I also want to do volleyball or track (not both). Is this too much?

@Cookiesandcreme no not at all! Try to pursue most of your interests to find the one you like the most. As for volleyball or track, it all depends on what your preference is. If you like team sports, go for volleyball. But if you like individual sports, maybe track will be fun for you! They’re also in different sports seasons, so you could definitely try both.

Is anyone here taking robotics or is into it. Because I want to join the club but also do music and also do sports. Is this too much?

@winter21 to be honest I wanted to do Chinese but I think spanish is easier but more useful in today’s world. But how is Chinese is it fun? Right now I can still change my schedule a bit

@Cookiesandcreme I think Chinese is so fun! Both languages are very useful though… Especially Spanish because so many Spanish-speakers live in the US now. I mainly took Chinese because I originally thought I would study business, and it is very useful to know Chinese in that case. But now I’m leaning more towards premed… Haha but I still think Chinese is so cool and different!

Is anyone here interested in going to an Ivy League?

@CookiesandCreme - Most of the people on here are here due to desiring the opportunity to go the the league. But you’ll also find people with only 1 or 2 schools from the Ivies if any on their lists. Keep in mind that you can find some of the best schools outside of the league, like MIT. And Cambridge.

How was everyone’s freshman experience? Did you go to a school where you didn’t know anyone? Ups and downs?

I’m now a freshman (graduated 8th grade yesterday)

Me too! Honestly I didn’t really like my school and was glad to leave.

Well hey there! I’m going into 9th grade in August. But summer school starts Monday, so I guess then I’ll officially be a 9th grader? xD

In my town there’s 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. Except there’s also a private Catholic school that has preschool to 8th grade, which I went to. We really didn’t have any freedom. There were only 2 honors classes for each grade, math and English. We had to take art and music. You could get detentions for the stupidest things, like forgetting to wear a belt twice or forgetting your lunch box at school overnight. But the teachers were really nice and genuinely wanted to help us :)

I’m kind of scared because I’m going to the public high school Only like 18 kids from my grade are going there. Anyone have any advice? :D

Hi @LosingCrayon. I too am scared to go to high school. Unlike you the high school I’m going to will have no familiar faces. Which is 50/50. What’s your schedule?

P.S Do we keep this post going until we graduate because that would be cool

@halcyonheather

I went to an engineering specialty high school after middle school…

Not only does my high school only feature 30% females, the quality of females is not some crazy leap over middle school.

To you freshman: Don’t be obsessed with hooking up straight out of middle school. Odds are, it’ll come off a bit creepy (because it is) and only leave you cringing as you look back on your high school life. Just be cool and natural about it, and know that even though some people may be attractive, after a certain point, it becomes more important that you don’t want to kill them.

Homicide isn’t the best EC.

@Apollo11 I too am going to an engineering school but we have a choice between engineering and biomedical.
This may be a weird question but where do I sit on the first day of school at lunch? As I’ve said before I won’t know anyone and I’m really shy

@Cookiesandcreme Hi I’m sorry you won’t know anyone at your new school But sometimes it’s nice to start over Like, I was really shy (until like 5th grade) and people still thought of me like that this year. When I go to high school though, people are going to see me as I am now :)

Here’s my schedule There aren’t many honors/AP available for freshmen, and it’s especially hard for kids from my school to get into honors at the public school.

Summer School: Speech and P.E. 1

Semester 1:
Honors Geometry
Honors English 9
Biology (no one from my school got into honors at the public school)
French 1
AP Human Geography (only AP for freshmen)
Study Hall (for online Chinese)
Music Theory (sophomore and up class, my counselor is trying to get me in)
-(If I don’t get into Music Theory, I’ll just have to take Computer Applications 1)

Semester 2 is pretty much the same, except I’m taking P.E. 2 instead of Music Theory.

I would say my schedule is pretty rigorous The only honors class I’m missing is Biology, but no one from my school got in since we don’t have honors science. Most people going to the public high school couldn’t get into any honors at all. But I’m trying to take Algebra 2 instead of the study hall and just do the Chinese at home. If I can take it honors, it could make up for not being about to take Honors Bio :D

My middle school only offered Spanish, so that’s why I have to start with French 1 I heard the principal at my middle school was going to start teaching German next year, though… I don’t even know… I wish I could have had that option, though :(

What’s your schedule like? :D

Here’s my schedule! I’m going into 9th grade too. There aren’t any honors/advanced classes available for freshman in english, history, or foreign language, so here’s what I have.

English 9
World History 1
Chinese 2
Advanced Geometry
AP Biology
Study Hall (mandatory)
Intro to Art (prerequisite for all fine arts classes)

I’m kind of nervous for HS… but I’m also very excited!

No makeup.
English I
Novels for Young Readers
Algebra I
Physical Education I
Physical Science
History of Economics
World History
Music Appreciation
Speech I
Word Processing I
Manage Transitions

I didn’t take challenging classes as a freshman. I (mostly) caught up later, though.
I switched school districts before freshman year, so I didn’t really know anyone and I didn’t really make friends. I wore weird clothes and I had a bad haircut, but I didn’t get made fun of very often. (When it did happen, it was just comments in passing that didn’t bother me very much.) Freshman year was my worst year of high school by far, but it was still better than most of middle school.
People will tell you high school is way different from middle school, but in my experience it isn’t really. (Unless you go to a school where they let you leave for lunch, because that’s kind of cool. Or if you’re going to a boarding school.) If you had friends in middle school, you’ll probably have friends in high school. If you had trouble making friends in middle school, you’ll probably have trouble in high school. Nothing is really unprecedented.
FTFY. “Females” is weird.

@Cookiesandcreme

Same at my school…

Are you in CT?

Also, 1st day of lunch, try sitting at a table of people that are wearing things similar to you. Odds are, they’re interested in the same things and will be more accepting.
