I am currently a freshman at a very small school which has 612 people in it with kids from 3rd to 12th grade, so very small. Next year I will be transferring to a big school, but I want to see what you guys think about my credits. Since my school is so small I have 0 choices on classes I take sadly, but currently my classes are:
-Honors English I
-Honors Geometry (I already have 1 high school credit because I took algebra in 8th grade)
-Integrated Earth and Physical Science/IEPS
-Computer Applications (A requirement in my state, WA)
-Honors Spanish I
-Physical Education
Since I already did 1 credit of Math in 8th grade, I could end high school with 5 math credits
How many foreign language credits should I aim for?
Will colleges like how my freshman classes look?
Any advice for my high school classes what to take next year when I will be at a real high school?
I am a B and A student and will most likely end with half B’s and half A’s.
Depends on the school’s policy, but 99% of the time yes.
It depends on the schools you are aiming for. Ivy League schools will want 4 (unless their is a scheduling conflict you can’t work around or something), while other schools may only require 2 or 3 and not care about any additional years. For now, you should just plan on taking Spanish for at least your Freshmen and Sophomore years, then do some research throughout the next two years and decide based on the schools you choose how Junior and Senior year should look.
If those are your only choices in classes and you are taking all possible honors courses, you should be fine. Colleges understand if certain courses weren’t offered where you attended school.
That depends. Have you considered college majors/future professions? I would recommend different courses for a future scientist than I would for a future dancer. Some general advice would be to just take the hardest courses you can be successful in that relate to what you want to do in the future (or just fulfill graduation requirements). You could also consider picking up a fine art if you are into that. For me, marching band was a great way to make a lot of new friends fast, which you might want when you switch schools.
By the way, make sure you aren’t selling yourself short. Don’t resign yourself to “I’ll get half A’s and half B’s”. Aim for a 4.0, and even if that doesn’t happen this semester, keep reaching for the highest grades possible. A lot of people I know could easily get straight A’s, but don’t because they discourage themselves and procrastinate. Always do your best!
Colleges measure math and foreign language by level reached. The higher the better as long as you still have a B or higher.
Then you need to have three additional academic classes each year (English, science, social science) and personal picks especially in 11-12th grade.
Note: Conputer apps specifically isnt a requirement for washington. Some sort of CTE (carreer and technical education) class is. You’ll have more options and ways to take required classes after you transfer, so for now just focus on getting good grades where you are.
For washigton state colleges, you need at least 2 years of foreign language, 3 is better.
I would recommend taking more advanced science classes in the core subjects especially if you’re interested in a STEM field. You’ll have to take biology so you can take the eoc, but try to take a year of chemistry and a year of physics too.
