High School Classes

If i want to major in video game design, is it important that i take classes related to my major in high school? Right now it’s my senior year and im doing apps, but i’m still really unsure about what i want to do in the future

It depends. There are many, not so reputable video game design programs out there – especially the for-profit “tech schools” that advertise on midday television. Steer clear of those.

Doing apps is fine – but frankly, how is your artistic skill? While you may intend on this as a career, has your work or potential in this ever been objectively verified by an outsider in the field? Or are you intending to work on the coding side of things?

Not being sure of the future is normal. Do you envision a typical bachelors degree? If so, many of your peers will ultimately settle on something somewhere their sophomore year of college. You don’t have to feel you’ve mapped everything now. Get your HS basics in order (for game design, knock out your physics and math and CS, if any). Focus on other basics too like English and social studies/Econ. Plenty of incomprehensible dolts out there. Don’t be one of those.

This means focus on your HS GPA and tests (ACT and SAT). The better you do, the more options you’ll have. Good luck

What if i have like a 3.8GPA, 31ACT score and i want to go to UCI?

You’re okay. Also look into USC.
