I came about to finding that forming a High School Club looked great on College Applications, and I was wondering if any of you sharp minds out there could give me a few good ideas. I am passionate about math, science, and almost anything academic. Thanks in advance!

Funny you should ask, I’m planning on starting a club in my school this year. It’s going to be a publication where we post articles about science and science-fiction. My school had a publication where students can submit their own science-fiction/fantasy piece but it kind of died out 20 years ago and I’m trying to revive it back. At first, it’s just going to be a website, but if we get funding, we might publish hard copies of our work. You can use this idea if you want, I highly doubt you go to my school and could possibly steal this idea from me.

I’m a senior and I’m going to join a club for the first time. The club is FBLA which is Future Business Leaders of America. My teacher said it looks great on college apps, it’s easy, and I can earn a chord for graduation! I’m even thinking about running for vice president. If your school has it I would join it! If you have more questions you can PM me :)

I’m also considering starting a science (olympiad) club, as well as possibly an Asian culture club or something. The only problem is that my school is predominately white… Plus what would we do in that club, watch kdramas? lol.

I started the Chemistry club last year. (basically we just do chemistry labs but without all the analysis questions and worksheets and stuff.) My brother wants me to start a National History Honor Society but I’m not a big history buff or anything so if you like history, go for it. (not sure if that’s been done yet or not.)
You could also do a volunteer-type club. Does your school have a Key Club, Habitat for Humanity, etc? Those are great because you help the community both inside the school and out!

My school has a media club and enginnering club. The media club mostly make websites and games and such. The engineering club makes robots to enter in competitions.

I’m thinking of starting a school newspaper but my school is so apathetic that I don’t know if there will be enough people to write or read articles. I don’t have any experience in debate besides Model UN so I’m a bit hesitant on starting a debate club.

I personally think Model UN is a great background for starting a debate club (depending on how much experience you have in it of course). I’m involved too, and it’s essentially defending a country’s position on an issue: like debate with an international focus. You should go for it; you could even try to recruit fellow MUNers.

I’m going to be starting a club at my school, which is directly linked to a legitimate organization a close relative founded and directed, to help the less-fortunate on a semi-international level. I will present my idea-complete with a folder filled with the initial proposal, goals, and documentation- with my cousin to the leadership committee. Any ideas on how to get them on board? On how to gain the school’s support in general and/or encourage donations? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Personally I would not (I just don’t have the time), of my ECs only two are clubs, one I have an officer position in, the other I am co-president of, those two clubs alone are huge time commitments thanks to the positions…

@workHaRd12 In our math club, we basically do a lot of brain teasers and challenging problems. A lot of this is to prepare for the AMC in February.
