Hi guys,
I wanted to start this thread to inquire about high school clubs. Many, if not all, high schools have several school clubs that range from language clubs to even chess club. Joining the clubs that interest you could possibly display your involvement in your school and look good on college applications. I wanted to see what everyone thinks about the importance of joining clubs, if any, and being active in their school to show colleges about your personality. More importantly, would it be adviseable to even start your own club?

I wouldn't say they're a 10. Unless you're the founder or an officer, clubs aren't that important. For ECs, I'd think that sports, math/science teams or community service would look much better.

Only some clubs are actually important for college. The others are fun to join, but won't help much in college. The good ones are like Olympiads, Debate, Community Service, and Sports.
But ya don't just do clubs for college.

If you found a club that pertains to your interest and then receive recognition for it, it's would be very good. You'd just have to be really passionate and willing to spend time on it.

This has to be done within the context of your school. My school really doesn't have any clubs, so it would be really weird to start one, not to mention that most of the students are way too heavily involved in other things to start any club. It was a struggle to get 10 people together for a mock trial team this year, simply because everybody has all these other commitments.

i started a soccer appreciation club at my school...i wasn't doing it to list on a college app...we were just trying to get a way to watch the champions league games in school...now we organize camps and workshops for the younger school and stuff..but we like it and it turned out pretty good...20-25 members lol
