So I am applying to UMN next month but I dont exactly meet all of the high school course requirements. I exceed all of them besides the art unit. Do you guys know anyone who has been accepted without the art unit? It's very difficult to get into those classes at my high school since so many colleges are requiring a year of an art.

My son was accepted to UMN in 2011 (CSE/Honors) missing his high school art requirement. He simply had fulfill it by taking a humanities/art class. FYI - he took photography in high school which to them counted as an art, but UMN did not recognize it.

Really?! That is awesome! Thank you for restoring my hope in getting accepted!

The minimum course requirement list is more of a strong suggestion than it is a “requirement”. The ideal candidate who applies would have fulfilled all of the courses on the list, but the U of M recognizes that that simply isn’t always the case. You application will most definitely NOT be tossed to the side because of the art requirement if you have a lot more to offer to the school in other ways. You’ll still be considered as highly as everyone else :)
