I've been perusing College Board and many colleges require several academic electives (three or four). Does this mean years or just courses themselves (like if I were to take two electives in a year). Can these also be counted as the courses in core subjects (language, math, etc.) that aren't required but are or are not recommended? If you go onto the College Board pages for various colleges you will understand what I'm talking about. I'm just confused as to what will allow me to meet the requirements. I do performing arts and it is something that I enjoy so I did not take academic electives freshman or sophomore year. I am taking AP Human Geography junior year and probably Honors Business and something else senior year.

Also, difference between history and social studies? History is a subset of social studies and for some reason they count differently on the College Board website.

Thank you for helping out! It is MUCH appreciated. I would totally ask my guidance counselor but she is good for nothing...
