I will be entering my senior next year, and I was hoping that someone could provide me with some much needed advice. Because of scheduling decisions I made way back in 8th grade, I have been set on a math course path that leaves me with two options for senior year: CP Calculus or AP Stat. I understand that calculus is recommended for applicants, however, I also see much value in the AP credit from the statistics class. I have no doubt that I can excel in either course, it's just a matter of understanding the better option. From an admissions standpoint, would it be better for me to meet the calculus recommendation, or to go after the AP credit?

I’d take CP Calculus

Intended major in college? If it requires either one, but not both, of calculus and statistics, it would be more useful to take that one. If it requires both, then check AP credit to see if it is useful (although sometimes if both calculus and statistics are requires, the statistics must be calculus-based, disallowing AP statistics). If it requires neither, then statistics is likely to be more useful in more things that you encounter in life than calculus.

Is there no option to take AP calculus, even the AB version (which is a less rigorous version than BC since it only covers a semester of college calculus over a year in high school)?

Yes, there is an option for taking AP Calc. I spoke to a couple teachers and they said that that would be a possibility if I desired. And I do realize that this would be the “best” option, it’s just a matter of working out the rigor of my schedule. Thanks for the input!
