Hi everyone, I was wondering if Yale and other top-tier schools accept students who have taken 3 years of a foreign language in high school. I read online that Yale (and Harvard) recommends taking 4 years of a foreign language. I’m a little worried because I took Spanish 1, 2, and 3 online (Spanish 4 isn’t offered online) and tried to take Spanish 4 Honors in school this year (I’m a senior btw). However, due to scheduling conflicts, I wasn’t able to. So my question is: if I don’t take a fourth year of a foreign language will this be looked upon unfavorably during the admissions process in any way? Thanks in advance!
I can’t say that it will hurt you as the admissions process at a school like Yale is holistic over being formulated. I will say that it won’t help you. I would hope that the scheduling situation would be either clearly explained by your guidance office and the classes you took instead were worth the schedule conflict. One blip on a full application will not kill your chances. Hopefully the rest of your application will intrigue them enough to not worry about how many years of Spanish you completed.
@Memmsmom Thank you so much!
