High School Courses in 8th

Hey, I'm a good deal into my highschool career, but just looked back and realized - YIKES! I got all B's in the three highschool courses I took in 8th grade, the only ones beside the B+ I got in math freshman year.

Tell me honestly: how much impact will this have on my chances at elite colleges?

none. they recalculate gpa based on your grades in 10,11,12.

^They do. I thought it was 9, 10,11,12. At least on my transcript it has all 4 years. So the colleges RECALC? Where can i find this info.? thanks though.

It depends on the school. I think stanford only counts 10,11,12. As for 8th grade, your grades might not even be on your transcript. I took a math class for high school credit in 8th grade and I don't think it is on my transcript.

Two things:

I could be wrong, but I thought Princeton recalculated your GPA without freshman grades.

Also, as ungst said, a class taken in 8th grade usually relates to a grade for that grade and school and doesn't carry over into high school. My son had 9th grade alegebra and Spanish in 8th grade (I do hope the colleges realize this when they count the number of maths/languages). But the grades for those classes have nothing to do with his high school transcript.

My D's h.s. transcript notes that she took Algebra, Geometry, Alg II/Trig and Physical science in middle school, but the grades are NOT shown. You don't have to worry about GPA in any classes not on your h.s. transcript. Don't count on colleges to recalculate your GPA....what goes in as your weighted/unweighted GPA is what your hs sends in, and I've seen it said that most colleges will not take the time to recalculate your GPA. That said, the fact that you did take high school classes in middle school, which presumably help(ed) you take higher level classes in high school, will help your chances getting into an elite school, if that's what you want.

I think that is great that your high school makes that notation on the transcript that HS courses were taken in
8th grade. I wish our school did that.

It definitely depends at the school.

I took Alg/Geometry in 7th and 8th grade and my grades show up on my transcript. It appears on the transcript as though I took Alg I, Geo, and Alg II in 9th grade, which obviously would be ridiculous.

I wish they did not count, as I got an A- in Geo one semester and now don't have a 4.0. Oh well!

Wrong. That's what work study kids are for

Does anyone know how Pton reconfigures?

I know that they take out 9th grade. I don't know if they take out elective courses like...P.E., for example, but some schools do that.

The grades that I got in my 8th grade courses count on my transcript. I know that they won't for Princeton, but they are factored into my GPA and help determine my current rank.

Princeton takes out 9th? You're 100% positive of this?

Hello? (10 char)

i am 100% positive. im anal and read literally 20 books on princeton admissions (or ivy league admissions) this summer, and this fact was referenced constantly

Crap, that was the only year I got a 4.0 :( Been super close ever since though.

How about any SAT IIs taken in 9th grade? It probably shows on the transcript but does anyone know if admissions will take the scores in 9th grade a little more lightly?

If you've taken more than 3 SAT IIs, they only look at the top 3 anyway. But if those ones you took in 9th grade are part of your 3, they probably look at them similarly.

Okay thanks a lot!
