A perennial question in high school seems to be "dating" among persons of different grades. What's a spread that's acceptable, keeping in mind state/federal laws?

2 grade levels sound like max. for me.

If you're a senior, 10th graders are fine. Don't mess with freshmen.

^^agreed..then again as a senior in this coming year, if she is very hot I can make an exception. I had a friend who was a senior date a girl in 8th grade...thats too much

i have a senior friend who's dating a freshman...lol but everyone gives him props cuz she's sooo hawT

^
LOL

BUT i dont think the girl should be older than the guy. One year is okay (girl is jr, guy is soph) but NOT like.. girl sr and guy soph. or even freshman

To me and my friends, one grade is the max. It just seems kinda of like robbing the cradle and destroying innocence if you go too young.

I've seen 2 years work out, both when the guy is older and when the girl is.

But 3 years or more is just weird. That basically means that it's a senior-freshman and a) the senior is going to leave soon and it's probably not going to work out, and b) the freshman won't get to know people in his/her grade because they'll probably be spending a lot of time with seniors.

im a rising senior and my best friends freshman brother is dating a rising senior, and it is def. weird. she takes so much crap at school while he gets major props but b/c of this he doesn't really have many friends in his own class.

i dated a senior girl for a while when i was a sophomore, and it worked for a while. im going to be a senior next year.

wow, STRONG chris hansen. as others have said, 2 years is acceptable and anymore than that gets a little weird.

Yeah, I think 1 year is the only acceptable one in my opinion. Goofing around goes 2-3 years in my opinion but dating is 1... And with the goofing around, if the guy is younger it just is awkward to me...I like things conventional.

Don't do anything illegal; no middle schoolers if you're 18.
No Freshman/Senior dating. Unless y'all are both at the same maturity level; I did know some immature seniors.

For guys, it's usually acceptable within two grades...
For girls, one.

It's not common to have the older girl/younger guy relationship b/c (it's true!) girls mature faster than guys.
Older guy/younger girl happens more often.

It's preferable to just date within your grade. Unless you're a senior girl... then you have college guys (within the realm of acceptability).

One of my friends turned 18 in october, and started dating a guy who was 23/24. It broke off shortly before graduation so eh.

The tone regarding girls in this thread bothers me. The double standard for women that they can't date too young --- yet boys can is terrible. =/

^ Agree.

Anyway, personally, I feel that as long as you're in High School, you can date each other. Unfortunately, there is a double standard. Senior guy + freshman girl is acceptable even though that's practically child abuse. For girls, I think 2 grade levels below her max. Junior girl + freshman guy is just a lot of difference. But if they like each other, it's nobody's business.

I would say definitely not senior and freshman. But also consider maturity and friend circles.

I find a gap of more than one year awkward in any case to be honest. Later in life, it's acceptable as people mature at different rates. But, the maturity differences are quite large in high schools...

I don't think I would ever look at anyone a grade below me.. I don't care how attractive they are

asdfjkl1, it sounds terrible, but I don't think everyone means that girls can't date younger guys, but the idea is more like they (well at least I) don't want to. I mean, guys are already immature as it is, and to go further backwards would be even worse.

I went to a 3 year high school, so dating freshmen was uncommon for seniors since they'd be at the junior high. Instead, any guy who dated a soph girl was kind of seen as a sleezy man whore.

Oh, by inter-class I thought you meant a rich person dating a poor person.

^^Said the individual with the username of "proletariat". :) Nowadays, I don't think a rich person dating a more poor person is that unacceptable.
