High School deaths

I hate to be morbid and depressing, but how did some of ya'll deal with this?

Everyone at my school like mourns for awhile and is really supportive of the kid’s family. One girl who died in the current graduating class heavily impacted everyone, thy mad bracelets, consistently comment on her memorial myspace+fb pages abt how she’s still in their hearts(after2-3 years) and they dedicated this year’s yrbk to her. :')

And, they’re not dead yet but…, anyway two seniors got into a huge crash after prom and are in critical condition and the whole school is really supportive of them right now.

“they’re not dead yet” epic.

My school was big enough that not everybody knew everyone, like 2000 kids. But in my freshman and sophomore years, we had 5 kids die from OD. Mostly heroin. That was rough. We had a bunch of memorial services. But other than the people close to them, it didn’t really affect the student body. That’s when the school really overhauled our drug program though. Random drug tests all the time, and anyone who tested positive had to go to meeting 4 times a week or be expelled.

Two 8th graders died the first year I was at my HS, in 7th grade. 2000 people, 6 years apart, there are a lot of people who don’t know each other. But the girl who died, hit by a car, was mourned a lot more than the guy who died of natural causes. I sort of knew the girl, she sat diagonally behind me, to my left, in 2nd bell Algebra I, but I had only seen the guy in the halls.
One guy died a few months after graduation. I know he was in my orchestra class, but I don’t remember him at all. I feel really bad about that.

So, I suppose we don’t have many deaths. The biggest one I knew of was a guy from another school, who died when I was in 9th grade. Half of my classes were out for his funeral.

A long time ago though, a boy, a basketball star, died of some massive myocardial infarction or something during a game. All the teachers still talk about him, and we have a memorial game every year.

That’s horrifying. All of this makes me want to live each day as if it were my last, as morbid as that sounds. I’ll start tomorrow.

Ah, well there were two but I’m kind of, I mean one was shot while he was committing robbery (shot by a 12 years old in a much more realistic Home Alone situation). The other committed suicide, but it ****ed me off because he hung himself in front of an elementary on a weekday so all these little kids saw the body. I don’t actually feel for them, death or not.

The one that was sad was the mechanic teacher who died of a heart attack. Every one loved him, he was a good man.

Oh, also some graduated guy last year actually killed someone! Which is crazy because I knew him in drama, he was a screw-up really, always breaking something and he left drama after this girl A told her off (I saw the telling-off, kinda hilarious). Seemed like a regular enough screw up kinda kid so him killing and then running to another state freaked me out (we talked and everything, weird).

It’s always strange when people you know do weird stuff.

One of my classmates, her little brother passed away while doing parkour (so yeah, don’t do it). A lot of people in the school wore black or went to the funeral or memorial service they had dedicating the garden or something to him (not sure, the memorial service part wasn’t well known). He got a page in the yearbook with his picture and birth/death years. Facebook page was made for him. It was sad, but there wasn’t much talk by the teachers or administration about it; oddly enough, I felt like they ignored it.
I didn’t know the guy before he passed away (different class level, and in a school of 2900 there’s a lot of people I don’t know) but that just made it more awkward and uncomfortable. It was moving though, showing how much grief there is and how easy it is to lose someone when you don’t suspect it.

^^^I was going to make a doubly off-color comment about the suicide hating Mondays, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Oh, but re people from our schools killing people: Charles Manson went to my school. I know he himself never killed anyone, but you know what I mean.

Also, my physics teacher, his wife was in remission from cancer and his daughter had a very rare cancer that she was dying from (I think she already passed seeing how long it’s been…). And my freshman year computer teacher, his wife had cancer and passed from it. :frowning:

This is a depressing thread but it shows how life is precious and you gotta make every day mean something.

I know it’s depressing ya’ll but I had to let it out today.

I heard an awfully sad story (confirmed to be true) about a girl from another school, who is a friend of a friend. Her father was very, very sick, in the hospital, which, of course, caused her mother great stress. He was about to come home, when the stress finally ended with her mother dying. A month or so later, the sickness took her father as well.

That’s so sad. I’m so sorry for bringing everyone down. I think I need to start a lighter, happier thread.

This thread popped up at a weird time. Someone just died from my school.
I’ve never really had to deal with any deaths at my school, though. I don’t know any of them.

That’s why I made it. Someone I knew died yesterday, and I just found out this evening.

Oh, one I wish they had made a mention of in the yearbook (if we had had one) would be to this girl whose mother died. They didn’t have enough money for her funeral (I don’t think her father is in the picture, also funerals are pretty expensive and not a lot of people have life insurance or much money) so a lot of people donated whatever they could (like I gave whatever was in my pocket when they asked, $3 and some change) and there was a plate sell and a lot of things to help her out. Sweet girl, friend of a friend but even though she isn’t well known everyone was eager to help out.

Hmmn in like…6th grade this girl i know was in 8th grade. had a car crash…her mom and little sister (friend of mine a year lower) died. two years later her dad died.

friend of mine in 10th grade (he was a junior tho) had a wreck and his little brother died. that funeral was sad.

one of my best friends brothers is in prison for killing a taxi driver the year he graduated

this girl was shot and killed (accidentally) in my schools parking lot in like the 70s…

a friend of mine (not close…more acquaintance) died the year after he graduated. got shot in the back of the head during a drug deal gone bad.

i went to kind of a ghetto school so lots of my old friends/classmates have either killed someone/shot someone/ been killed themselves/are in prison currently etc.

like seriously there was a group of 3 guys in like freshman year that i was friends with. all 3 are in prison.

also i went to the same school from 3rd to graduation and only about 500 ppl k-12 so everyone knew everyone.

I go to a school with like 200 kids total, so everyone knows everyone, and a boyfriend and girlfriend got killed in a car crash. It hit everyone pretty hard.

This discussion is getting seriously depressing. I really, really need to do another thread.
