High School- Drinking, Drugs, or Neither?

Basically in my school (and almost any public school), there's always that group of kids that gets *ed up every weekend, with some trying anywhere from the DB gateway drug to harder drugs (coke). What I did like about HS was I could justify their drugs/alcohol use by way of their lack of intelligence...really, the only two people who never touched that stuff were me and the salutatorian (although he told me got drunk once, which I wasn't pleased to hear....). I'd say it works out better to stay away from that homotional *, and if you're a FAMF like me you can think of subtle ways to make fun of them in your daily speech.

Also...anyone else find it funny that the jocks with a semblance of aspiration for athletics are the biggest violators? Real athletes would never touch a bottle of soda, let alone alcohol.

Popular with, well, the popular kids. I play sports and am "smart," so I'm sort of the intermediate who knows and is friends with many different groups. Some of the "popular" kids say that it would be funny if I got drunk at a party because I would start reciting the dictionary. A little funny, yes, but I'm also not stupid and do not want to do anything I'll regret (namely, getting killed or killing someone). That stuff's not for me.

AWESOME HAS OCCURRED

What type of school do you go to (private, public, rural, city)?
Midsized semi-rural public.
Does your school have a prevalent drug or drinking social scene?
Yes, like any other high school. I'd say about ~70% of the kids drink, 50% smoke pot, and 15% do harder drugs. These groups overlap a LOT, though. Almost all the smokers also drink, and ALL the hard drug users also smoke.
Are you part of the scene?
No. I've never desired to chemically alter my consciousness, so I don't indulge. It's not a big deal.
Who is part of the scene(jocks, hipsters)?
Mostly, the jocks and popular kids. We have a few traditional underachiever stoners, but not many. The jocks (especially the soccer and hockey jocks) do the harder drugs; sometimes in my honors classes I hear them talking about doing E, coke, and acid.

The most annoying thing is that the coaches know that their best players are doing hard drugs, but they ignore (and even cover for) that behavior. The drug-using jocks know that they are protected, so there is no real incentive for them to stop.

I go to a large, suburban public school. Most people drink, but rarely to the point of intoxication. There are some who smoke pot, but these are mostly social outcasts. I'm sure some people do harder drugs, but they're not so prevalent. I've never been part of the scene. I've seen people "under the influence" and I don't want that to happen to me.

I go to a public school in the suburbs... we're in, like, the third-richest county in America or some crap.

There are lots of drinking parties, and all the kids who take part in them think they're badass when they upload pictures of themselves, with their little plastic cups, onto facebook and comment each other's pictures like "omggg i was sooo goneee lollll." A small number of my not-really-close friends take part in them, but they're not usually the attention whores.

There are lots of druggies, mostly pot but I'd guess a lot of harder stuff, too (think rich kids and their designer drugs.) One of my friends is actually a dealer, and that annoys me to no end. We have a few fairly well-known dealers, actually -- well-known enough so that most students are aware, but not the administration.

I and my main group of friends stay awayyy from all that. We don't wanna kill our brain cells and risk losing our 4.0s! ;] Naw, we just don't find that stuff necessary to have fun.

I couldn't really put a label on the groups of kids that do that, although by far the most attention-grabbing ones according to facebook are the "popular" groups -- you know what I mean, the partiers. Individual members of such groups range from smart kids to dumb-as-sh1t kids, from jocks to drama kids. Our school's cliques aren't homogeneous.

Marijuana isn't that bad when you just try one joint and you don't have any homework to do. Of course it stays in your system a while so you better not have any drug tests any time soon. It's mainly a matter of self control.

It's just when people set up a mini-economy on drugs and become addicted is when it's bad. Also never touch heroin or crack, that stuff will get you addicted almost immediately.

Oh but it is. The resulting munchies you get ends up wasting food that could have fed a homeless person for a week.

Even though it's not true, I love hearing the claim that "DRUG MONEY SUPPORTS AL QAEDA", just because it ****es off all the potheads.

What type of school do you go to (private, public, rural, city)?: private, catholic school
Does your school have a prevalent drug or drinking social scene?: oh yes. it gets worse with each incoming class of freshman lol
Are you part of the scene?: i'm not the type of person who goes out and drinks all the time, but occasionally at a party i will. drugs no
Who is part of the scene(jocks, hipsters)?: it's actually a pretty even mix of people; everyone from jocks to the boy with the highest average in the grade drinks

i go to a large public school and both alcohol and weed are extremely popular.
there are not many big house parties, but there was a huge one after prom...at least 200 people. so much booze and stuff, cops came and then a lotta shti went down. but usually just small parties of about 8 to 20 people.

at my school, pretty much everyone does the alcohol and weed or has at least tried it. i've never done weed, but most of my friends do. i'm usually the DD cuz though i do like to drink, i dont really trust anyone else to not drink.

hookah is also very popular. there are a few hookah lounges around town. actually for my 18th bday some friends and i went and smokes some hookah and then went to the clubs. i'm didn't like it though, i pretty much hate smoking in general.... but really it's whatever floats your boat~!

What type of school do you go to (private, public, rural, city)?

suburb, 20 minutes from NYC

Does your school have a prevalent drug or drinking social scene?

absolutely. there are parties every weekend in basements all over town where people drink and smoke pot.

Are you part of the scene?

nao. i drank a couple of times and smoked pot once, but i dont think that the benefits outweigh the consequences.

Who is part of the scene(jocks, hipsters)?

everyone. id say 85% of my high school smokes pot/drinks. Its really rare to meet someone who hasn't smoked pot, but rarely anybody does anything harder than that.

Public

It's very prevalent. I know a bajillion people that use marijuana. A lot of people drink.

Nah.

EVERYONE. There is no group in which the drug scene is not prevalent.

I go to large public school. Our town is famous for its marijuana. We were ranked around #8 in the country by High Times. I don't smoke myself anymore but weed is extremely popular, as is alcohol. There are also a lot of huge parties. Other drugs are also pretty popular, with acid making a recent comeback.

Suburban public school
Yes, many kids drink and smoke pot. Harder drugs really aren't prevalent.
Nope, not my thing.
People of all "types"- my school is too small to really form cliques. As a general rule, more social people are more likely to be into partying, while people who aren't so social tend to stay away.

What type of school do you go to (private, public, rural, city)?: large public
Does your school have a prevalent drug or drinking social scene?: My school is the biggest stoner school, at least 80% of juniors and seniors blaze regularly, and in at least every class some1 is high. A large percentage also drinks most weekends. Drugs like shrooms and acid are also popular but not really any hard drugs.
Are you part of the scene?: Kind of, I blaze almost every day, but rarely get drunk at parties.
Who is part of the scene(jocks, hipsters)?: Everyone, except a small number of straight-edge kids

Public high school.

I believe there are a lot of drugs and alcohol at my school, but I don't go to enough "extracurricular functions" to know for sure. The jocks, JAPS, and "cool kids" drink, the artsy liberals (drama club) and social outcasts do drugs, and the ghetto kids and white trash that's been held back three grades does both.

I don't fit into the scene at all. I don't drink, smoke, or even cuss. In terms of social structure at the school, nobody is like me, really. I talk to and get along with everyone, from cool to nerdy, as long as they are decent people that I like, but I don't hang out in any specific clique and I never really see any of my peers outside school. I think I've been to one party in the last two years.

I'm the kinda guy students go to see when they want a break from the typical social life of teenagers and would rather get a handshake than a high-five, or would rather talk about the stock market than the date market.

Small private school

Not really. The basketball team smokes weed before their games, but I would say the vast majority of people don't smoke or drink. Maybe I'm naive, though.

Nope and I never will. I'm allergic to alcohol (what am I going to do in college? lol) and I threw up after smoking my first cigarette, haha.

Primarily the jocks and potheads (surprise?). If you read 2-iron's last two paragraphs, that's exactly how I would describe myself!
