I want to go into business when I'm older. But I'd like to gain some experience/taste of it right now. (I'm currently a sophomore going into Junior) Does anyone have any ideas of businesses I could start? :) Nothing like, raking leaves, or selling lemonade. Something a bit bigger? Thanks guys!! :D Maybe some personal examples'll help too =)

Go for it! I think thats great. I personally have run a couple small businesses when I was younger, I've always loved the idea of managing a business, like one I did was taking out trash. I was like 11 years old, and I got a couple of my friends, and we basically went on a regular basis to people around the neighborhood taking out their trash.

I also actually started a icicle business too, and and and... lol :P

Anyways, for some ideas...

Webdesign is obviously overdone, but if you have the skills, a freelancing might be a nice start.

Sell t-shirts, maybe start a mini-magazine for the community. It really depends on your interests. I mean, you can easily turn any hobby (or a hobby you would like to get into) or interest you have into a business.

Why dont you start by telling us some of your hobbies and interests? I mean, if you like to write, then starting a newsletter for the community is an idea, if you love to read, maybe a small book trading business? If you like arts and crafts, you can make jewlery, and sell it to various stores in your area, and even sell directly to customers.

When I was like 12 I had an eBay business. I tried to order bulk leather goods, and did, but they were of crap quality so I sent them back. I also sold trading cards, because they were cheap to ship and very hot at the time. I'd just look for items that you can get in your area. Ie: Ugg boots are really popular here, but in other areas they can be had anywhere. They can be bought especially cheap in the summer. Or look for hot electronics. People who sold x-box 360's made a killing on eBay when they came out. Hope this helps! GL.

Thanks for the help guys. Is there anybody with more? I'm not necessarily looking to make money. I have a sufficient amount, it's just that I'm looking for a good experience in learning as much management/etc.. as possible. Any more? these are great :)

PM me if you are interested.

I am 16 and I run a pretty successful business. Started from nothing, now of the largest of my kind in the area.

I've done a bunch of random crap in the past, but now I'm getting into internet viral marketing and advertising. You can read about my newest project here: www.persecondpodcast.com. I'm also managing a fund heavily invested in internet moneymaking schemes and the like.

Basically, surround yourself with entrepreneurial people and you'll surely end up doing something sweet. That's a lot easier in college, of course...

And don't let anyone tell it is not possible.

They just don't want to see you drive a porsche at 21...as someone once told me.

My brother and I have been doing business together for a while. Our to most meaningful businesses are we have an ebay store were we liquidate all the left over merchendise from our father's stores but where all the cash really comes pouring in is through investing in stocks and options. That took a lot of work but we make a great team.

the podcast person above you has NO CLUE what he/she is doing. the html is very bad and it's only an image.

so, you really need to learn html and learn it right. it take around 2 - 3 years and you won't make a CENT.

there is never a "get rich quick"

I'm not looking for a "get rich quick" I'm looking for experience in business. Anybody else have ideas? :)

well i opened a online audio store with my brother. they take alot of work so we had to shut down. 2 ppl running a complete fully functioning online dropship store with anti-fraud can be rough.

tips: be creative and dont force ideas to yourself, let ideas come to you. Contact people that will give you honest opinions on the idea. family members saying "wow wat a wonderful idea" dont count.

right now i do cold calling for my brothers web design company. who ever said web design is saturated...think again. we easily charge $1-3k per website made and quality marketing sets you apart from the crowd.

dont let your age be a factor, its more costly and time consuming to do things while being a minor, but we found out its all possible.

Instead of giving you ideas I recommend finding one yourself, find something you have a passion for so you can give it your all, and something you believe in.

Doing a business over Ebay is so fun.

Anybody else have:
A) Ideas for a business
or
B) Help on what to do as of now before i start?
:) THANKS FELLOW ENTREPRENEURS!!

If you are really into computers start a tech asistance company. My son does that and he sets up networks, repairs crashes, builds boxes and has started to do data recovery.
The pay is dependent on what level of skill it takes. His charge for building a computer is much lower than what he charges for data recovery.
The trick to this is that you have to be good enough to do it quick and right. Messing someones files up is a sure way to cost yourself a customer.
He started out small and gets all his business by referrals.

Amnesia, the website up right now is a prelaunch sequence and i'm not even the webmaster. Plus, if you knew what you were doing, you'd know that HTML is on its way out in favor of CSS and more advanced scripting. Spending 2-3 years learning a bunch of obsolete html tags would be a huge waste of time.

Packers1 has a good idea for people in high school to do.

bobbobbob, you def. dont do eBay.

sell borwnies, or pens, cuz that wat i did this year, and what i did was every day i would bring in 20 brownies that i would sell at 1$ and by the end of the day (frist period) they would be gone and i made 20$. also i carried a box of keychain pends that sold for 4 dollars, and whenever someone lost a pen, i always had one to sell...

laxgirl, so how much money did you make by the end of the year?

laxgirl> You sold pens to students? That's just heartless.

selling pens thats funny,lol

I tried to start my own t-shirt business it really didn't work and ended up costing me like 100bucks.I second the idea of ebay, ppl will buy anything./..
