High school foreign language requirement?!!

Does having only 2 foreign lang credits ruin the chances of getting into selective private colleges like nyu, carnegie or even low ivy’s?

I know it’s different by schools but usually 2 is required and 3 recommended. But Cornell requires 3, so I started taking Spanish 3 online but it’s not working out for me so I’m about to drop the course…
I think I learn better in an instructive classroom.

Im also taking 6 AP’s & I just can’t find time with all these college stuffs to do. Plus the last time I took Spanish was in my sophomore year. I don’t remember anything!

So my question is…
Is it possible to go to those colleges with only 2 yrs of foreign languages? Like, has it happened?

English is already my 2nd language  I was in esol until my freshman year

I would like to know the answer to this too. I only did 2 years of spanish and I want to get into uiuc

I got sick and had to transfer from public school to an accredited online school. Taking foreign language online is horrible, particularly because I have such a weak base in the subject. My public school has an awful, way too easy Spanish program, so I wasn’t equipped for the course. If I was still at public, I would take Spanish 3, but I don’t think I want to deal with the hassle or the GPA drop. I think 3 years looks much better than 2 on your transcript, though. I’d appreciate advice, as well.

Don’t know what grade you all are in but the fact is when you apply to top schools you are competing against other students who have taken 3, 4 or 5 (if they started in 8th grade) years of a foreign lang.

So if you don’t have the 3rd or 4th year, you need to have been busy doing something else that is impressive so the ad com can see why you don’t have it.

Top schools seem to want at least 3 years.

Are you sure you can’t finish spanish 3 I had a struggle at first but got the hang of it…but maybe since english is your second language, they can make an exception.
