<p>I have heard recently that University of Michigan Ann Arbor does not recalculate GPA anymore. In my current situation, my freshman GPA is not really the best... Does UofM count every year equally now? Is freshman year weighted more now due to this? Please answer.</p>

<p>If you have a bad first year in HS then you show dramatic improvements for the remaining three years, then schools will not care you had a bad first year (probably due to adjustments to a different environment, right?) Also, this is where the essay can help. In the essay you can talk about how you didn’t do well, what steps you took to correct things, and how you improved.</p>
