Hi! I’m an incoming college freshman who had a pretty abysmal HS GPA. Due to this I’m attending community college. I’ve taken 3 college classes and have a 4.0 currently. By the time I finish this summer and fall term, I’ll have close to 30 credits, and most likely still a 4.0 college GPA. My SAT scores are high, and I volunteer at 3 organizations pertaining to the degree I’m seeking. I also am starting a new organization at the community college I’m currently enrolled in. I would like to transfer as a sophomore to a university, so I guess my question is can my community service and volunteering throughout HS and now, as well as my 4.0 with 27 credits in college overshadow my extremely low HS GPA? Thanks!
It depends upon where you are applying. Some universities will demand to see your high school transcript and some will not ask to see it at all once you have enough college credit.
A few things to consider - Different schools may have different requirements about minimum credits.
- For example, at University of Rhode Island, they require you to have an AA or AS in order to waive the requirement for high school grades.
- At other schools, the ability to waive the high school transcript requirement may be dependent on how many college units you have. For example if applying to transfer to Drexel, you only need to send high school transcripts if you have less than 24 college semester units.
- At higher tier schools (Flagship state schools, Ivy Leagues, etc) you often CANNOT waive the requirement for high school transcripts.
You will have to do the research by looking at the transfer admissions requirements for all of the schools
