high school gpa: can i raise my 3.0 gpa to a 3.7?

i am a current sophomore in high school with a gpa of 3.8. my freshman year i did poorly and finished with a 3.0 gpa. will i be able to achieve a 3.7 gpa by the end of senior year? if so what grades will i have to get and any tips? i know i have to work hard the next 2 years and i will be :slight_smile: i’m striving for a gpa of 3.8+ for junior and senior year. thank you!

Is your 3.8 GPA for the fall semester (alternatively the first two quarters)? Pretend you’re taking the same number of classes each semester, and these GPAs are unweighted on a 4.0 scale, then you have:

(23.0 + 3.8 + 5x)/8 = 3.7
5x = 19.8
x = 3.96

So you would need a 3.96 average GPA over the next 5 semesters to get a 3.7.

You should use a GPA calculator (easily found online) or an excel spreadsheet to figure this out.

i’m taking one ap class next year and two senior year. that’ll bump up my average even more right? i calculated my gpa with my grade predictions and i made them realistic and it said a 3.7-3.8 was achievable if i scored 90’s and anove for all classes except trig (predict an 82) and 90’s above all senior classes… which i think is achievable because everyone says senior year isn’t that hard :smiley: @happy1 @CharlotteLetter

Take dual enrollment classes (even lower level [i.e. College Algebra]) instead of high school classes.
