In high school I graduated with a mere 2.0 gpa due to lack of interest toward education, but in my first semester of college I have a 3.74 gpa and I have been deans listed. Also, on the SATs I got an average boring score of 1520. I have now applied to transfer to Arizona State for fall 2011 and I was wondering, will my High School gpa and SAT matter? or will the focus be on college achievements? I have completed 15 credits, but I am currently enrolled in another 15, so by the time I would get to ASU I would have completed 30 credits.

iirc, most colleges will look at your high school transcript if you have not yet completed 2 years of college. But I’ve read high school GPA and college work is weighed about 50/50, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

When they make their decision, they will only see your first semester at college, so your HS record and test scores will get more weight.

I will preface this by saying I have no knowledge of ASU itself but I have done a lot of research on various other schools during my transfer process.

If you are applying with only 15 credits your high school record will be very important. Many schools don’t even allow transfers with so few credits and most that do consider the high school record to be the major factor in admissions since 15 credits only reflects 4 months of work vs the 4 years of hs. Yes, you will have 30 before you transfer but only 15 when they make the decision.

If you don’t get in this time I wouldn’t give up. If you wait another year and transfer as a junior you will have extraordinarily better chances.

thanks everyone, I also applied to Michigan State and University of New Mexico
