High School GPA question

Does UPenn consider GPA for all the HS years or only Sophomore and Junior years (I thought in the information session they said that but I am not sure). Can someone throw some light on this?

I’m pretty sure they look at everything. Consistent performance is pretty important.

However, I think they do place more emphasis on your grades in your more recent years because you are taking more difficult courses, or courses you are more interested in, during your later years of high school (e.g. APs, IBs).

They’re understanding if you had a rough transition to high school too. They would rather see upward trends than downward ones.

thanks spectrun778
do have upward trend … but 9th grade is not so good … but caught up and have overall top 8% in school.

SAT 1 - 2270 (800M, 700R, 770W)
Sub SAT - 800Math2, 800Phy, 780Chem
APs - 4 5s and 2 4s (and doing 3 more in Senior Year)

Hope the Suject SAT and AP scores will cover for 9th grade grades

Looks pretty good. If you want some comparison, my SATs were 2290 but you def beat me on the SAT IIs haha.

Just work hard on the application to make sure you really highlight your academic and extra curricular strengths, your desire to go to Penn, and your future goals. You can also take some time in your application (there’s an extra info box right?) to talk about maybe why your freshman year isn’t representative of your true academic abilities.
