High School GPA

Is there a consistent way colleges calculate GPA from your high school transcript?

I know they can’t just use what’s on your grade report, because some schools don’t weight, and some even have different ways of weighting.

Barring a set way to recalculate GPA, are there most common methods? Do certain schools tell you how they do it?

Thanks for any and all help.

I know some schools recalculate everyone's gpa. A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0 is the most common way for calculating gpas.

This is one reason why your rank is often more important than your GPA. Your rank places you in some kind of context. Of course colleges are still skeptical about your rank, since school classes (meaning entire student bodies) vary in quality.

Thanks for the help! But now I have another question:

Do colleges usually exclude freshman year grades from calculating your GPA?

depends. if they exclude freshman year then I'd have a perfect 4.0 ;)
