my district's GPA grading policy is pretty simple- the unweighted GPA is based on the 4.0 scale with 4=A,3=B, etc. The weighted GPA is the unweighted GPA with honors points added- .04 and .08 per semester for honors and AP classes, respectively.

100%=5.0
90%=4.5
80%+=4.0
70%=3.0
60%=2.0
50%=1.0
50%-=F
but the avg hovers around 50-60%
and the highest grades are in low-high 80%
highest GPA in school history 4.6 (1 person)
2nd highest (4.4)
3rd highest(4.3)
it's strange how top 40 GPAs don't have 2 that are tied

The valedictorian has like a 97 or something like that. I don't think anyone has ever had a 99 average, they may have. The only time anyone may have had a 99 was probably Freshmen/Sophomore year. Those were the easiest years for most people. I tell you, AP English was a wake up call for most of these kids who usually get away with "taking the easy route", I go to a pretty small school, so the AP English teacher for the 11th graders is the same man. He was not generous with grading, so it brung a lot of people's averages down.
