High school grade deflation?

My school has a LOT of grade deflation. The Euro teacher works us really hard so we'll ace the exam, all of the top students are taking AP Chemistry as sophomores, and next year the AP Language teacher only gives 5% of the students As.

If someone's unweighted GPA is like a 3.85 but they're in the top 1% with the most rigorous courseload and have a 2300+ SAT, are they still in the top tier academically?

Yes, GPA is meant to be used in combination with class rank. If it bothers you, talk to your guidance counselor about providing an explicit explanation in the report.

I have a feeling you’ve asked this multiple times.

Colleges will place more emphasis on your rank, but your rank does not override your GPA. They will also take a careful look at your transcript to see trends, abnormalities (such as a D), and course rigor.

Stop stalking me.

I’ve talked to a college admissions officer (family friend) and I happen to know quite a bit (especially about what adcoms think about your particular case, he likes to tell stories of his debates in the committee), but if you insist…

It seems as if my advice will not be welcome in your threads.

^
I was only kidding. Feel free to tell me more.

Hm. Like how you were kidding about your mom dying?

Anyway, don’t worry; I’m not the type to hold grudges. I’ll post if I feel like I have something to add.
