High School Graduation Gift?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a graduation gift for my daughter? I would normally give jewelry because it is a "longlasting" gift. Unfortunately, she hates jewelry! I need something meaningful but not smarmy. What would also be good for sons and daughters of close friends? She is my oldest so I don't have much experience with this.

Sure. Lots of good ideas on an earlier thread. And see this article:

Take a great family trip somewhere. That's what we did and my son still says it was the best gift imagineable.

Okay, I finally found the long prior thread about graduation gifts:

I'm sure whatever you do will be appreciated. Congratulations to your grad!

Nice computer speakers. A pocket knife.

i got a nice set of luggage. i know that sounds silly, but it's really came in handy. one it helped with moving to school, and two i love to take vacations with my friends which i did a lot throughout college and it really came into good use. there was three different sized suitcases and a nice sized duffel bag.

$$$$$$$$$$

i used my high school graduation money to purchase my things for college.. comforter, sheets, various other things... i used my college graduation money to pay my bills till i had a job :P

Thanks hiker, I looked through that thread and got lots of ideas
