It seems like this is a big issue. I see all these kids on CC who have 3.9 UW GPAs and are ranked like 30/350. This is slightly shocking to me, because at my private school, the boy who was 5/177 only had a 3.5 UW. How do schools predict grade deflation at smaller schools which they have never received applicants from? For example, my high school was a preppy Catholic private and no student had ever applied to Bard or Vassar. I'm now looking to transfer to Vassar but I'm afraid that my 3.2 UW is going to look terrible even though there was major grade deflation in the honor classes at my high school. How do you think schools go about judging grade deflation/inflation as high schools?

I heard that there are usually admissions people that is assigned to each location, so they usually have a good idea how rigorous your school is. Also, the class rank also plays a huge role so they can see how well you did relative to your entire class. Test scores also help determine high school inflation and deflation.
