Hi all,
I’m interested in doing a summer internship related to the mechanical/aerospace engineering fields or anything related to STEM (just not computer science). I’m currently a junior in high school. I live in Orange County, California and I’m involved in my rocketry club as a team captain aiming for TARC nationals. I know that NASA does it’s OSSI and JPL might restart its internships this year, but I know there’s a possibility that JPL won’t open and NASA’s OSSI is extremely competitive. I was wondering whether I should cold email some companies to see if they had opportunities. I was also considering emailing professors at my local UC. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m also wondering if I’ve missed any NASA opportunities.
Thanks!
Hey did you end up applying to OSSI? did you hear back at all?
High school “internships” aren’t really all that. You don’t have enough skills to add any value to a company. And college admissions officers know that. If you get an opportunity you want to take to learn something, then do it. But I wouldn’t spend all your time looking for one. Ah… I see this is an old post.
@IsoDidact Yes, I did end up applying to OSSI. I have not heard back, and others I know who also applied to OSSI have not either.
Re OSSI, My daughter hasn’t heard either. Any idea when she can expect something one way or the other?
@gene167e7 @melvin123 I think most give out interviews before giving offers. What locations did you/your daughter apply to?
I had a phone interview last weekend actually. Haven’t gotten an offer yet.
@IsoDidact she applied for Maryland, but I don’t know anything beyond that. How about you? Good luck to you!
@IsoDidact @melvin123 I applied for California locations, have not heard back.
