I'm looking to apply to Columbia as a High School junior has anyone else done this before. And any advice on this?

I’ve done it. I wouldn’t advise it unless you have a truly stellar academic and extracurricular record. And by stellar, I mean more than marginally better than the average accepted senior (which in itself, is not easy). My advice would be to enjoy your junior year and prepare to apply as a senior.

I was waitlisted last year at Columbia (and some peer institutions) as a high school junior despite almost exhausting curriculum options at my schools and strong extracurriculars + test scores.

EDIT: By the way, how can you be an Abercrombie indy? :)

My name is India ( Indy is my nickname) and I love abercrombie

well atleast we know you don’t dress well now

AAAWWW abercrombie is the shizzz wat abercrombie r u going 2? everything there is so cute. but that’s not the only place I shop

Don’t really recommend it. Junior year is the year when you strengthen your ECs, academic record, &c. Do you consider yourself an impressive applicant right now, as a soph?

Soph Stats- I don’t think they r that impressive but ok

No offense, but I was a lot better when I applied as a junior. I can’t be bothered to list my stuff, but if you look at my previous posts, it’s somewhere there.

Only advantage you have over me is your ethnicity (possibly).

Since next year hopefully I’ll be going to North Carolina School of Science and Math and they have a huge variety of courses which ones should i take junior year to seem more competitive?

Calm down. Apply as a senior. You will regret it if you don’t.

I would like to know my chances of getting in to Columbia. I am a junior of hispanic decent at a very elite catholic prep school and currently have a 3.45-3.5 gpa unweighted for my hs career. I also have around 200 hours community service and will have more by the end of my senior year. I have worked at Habitat for Humanity and tutoring for these hours. I have one year of football(jv), one year golf(V), am a member of an ethnic culture club, NHS, and run track (one year as well.) I have not taken the SATS yet but received a 1940 on my PSATs. Columbia, Dartmouth, UPENN, Emory, and NYU are currently my top schools.
What can I do to increase my chances and what chance do I realistically have? Also, any suggestions on other schools I could get into.
Thank you

thebossgolfer77: 3.5 GPA + 1940’s SATs…you don’t even have a chance if you apply early decision senior year.

Who the F are you people to make value judgments and recommendations about this person’s life/future when you likely have no idea what you’re talking about and undoubtedly know very little about this person?

She asked for advice, and I gave it. I think that for the best shot at being admitted she should wait until she is the strongest (as an applicant) she could possibly be, and for most students, that’s not until after junior year. She said herself that she didn’t think her sophomore stats were that impressive. Who are you to assume I don’t know what I’m talking about?
