Hi,
I'm currently a junior in high school and I really want to drop out of Spanish 3 honors. We just had our first day (I know early, right) and I decided to make the leap last year from Spanish 2 to Spanish 3 honors. I am now realizing, after being forced to spontaneously take the Spanish 2 honors semester 2 final at above an 80% as a "prerequisite" to getting in, that I probably made the wrong decision. First of all, I am fairly confident I scored bellow an 80% and secondly, I doubt I could even survive the class. What I'm wondering is should I go to regular Spanish 3 or could I drop out of Spanish all together? I have been in Ancient Greek since sophomore and plan on finishing my 3rd year of that language by senior year, but would it be bad to have only two years of one language and three of another? My course load is pretty heavy right now:
IB English 3
AP Biology
AP Calculus AB
AP US History
Greek 2 Honors
and I am looking to get into, hopefully, a top school, nothing like Harvard or Yale, but I am also a runner and hope to get recruited and I have a crap ton of extracurriculars too.
So, basically what I am asking is should I stick with Spanish or should I actually take a class I am interested in and, this is crazy I know, enjoy it? Also, my mom says colleges expect 3 years of a language, but I read elsewhere that 4 is the way to go. Any advice would be highly appreciated, sorry I stuck you with a plethora of writing, but hopefully you can understand my little situation more clearly now thanks (:

Well, if you are going to do bad in the class drop it and give spanish the finger. I am a senior in high school and can tell you that I did not think advanced spanish III was hard (I was good at spanish though). Also, if you are trying to get into Harvard, I think that spanish should not be a big challenge - but don’t let me discourage you

Oh no I’m NOT trying to get into harvard. Maybe like BC or something, but certainly nothing like that! They’re having everyone retake the final to see if we are qualified for 3 honors. I can get an easy A in regular, but if my placement tells me to go for honors I might give it a shot. I’m just not that confident in my spanish “skills”, so we’ll see.
