High School panic

I’m a high school senior. My GPA last year was a 2.7 and the two grades before…were well bad. I’ve done well so far this year, took my first two AP classes and have a 3.9877 weighted GPA currently. Unweighted is a 3.64. What are my chances with the colleges I applied to below?

Salem State University.
Fitchburg University.
Wentworth University.
UMass Dartmouth.

What is your overall GPA? Colleges look at that…but then they also look at upward trends…seeing that you have done better in harder classes. Was there some reason your grades were low? Illness? Family issues?

Does your school have naviance? Can you look at your collegs there?
If not, look online at sites like this to see the avg SAT scores and see how youfit

My current GPA is a 2.6.

Do you have SAT scores?

1240 SAT 25 ACT

It seems to me that you are targetting appropriate schools.

Yes you have a shot.
You may want to add a couple more (perhaps UMaine Fort Kent or Farmington? They offer the same tuition as your state university’s). Depending on the major, there are a few colleges where you could apply too.
Have you run the Net Price Calculator for all of these, to check whether they’re affordable?

More schools to consider, depending on your major.
SUNY (Keep in mind: if you’re from MA, Out of State tuition) Morrisville , Delhi, Buffalo State
Southern Connecticut
Plymouth State (NH)

In state: MA College of Liberal Arts.

This may help as well. http://www.nebhe.org/info/pdf/tuitionbreak/2018-19/brochure/2018-19_Tuition_Break_Massachusetts-Residents.pdf

As a resident of MA, you can receive a tuition break at a number of schools.

To get the NEBHE tuition break, the program/major cannot be offered in your home state. The Maine Flagship match program has been popular the last couple of years: https://go.umaine.edu/apply/scholarships/flagship-match/

Since I think you may be a Mass resident check with your school guidance counselor. I know it may depend on where you live but some state schools do on the spot admissions decisions at public high schools so guidance has an idea of what they look for. I know Salem State came to my daughter’s high school in October when there was no application fee. I think you have a good chance at Salem State University and am less familiar with the others.

if you like more rural schools look at Eastern CT State University. I think you have a good chance at getting in and it gives Mass residents about $10,000 off of oos tuition. they also give merit scholarships on top of the discount. Perhaps the merit is based on SAT scores. We drove by and it was a very pretty campus and my youngest loved that there was a barn right down the road. My daughter applied as a safety school and the acceptance letter is suitable for framing. She won’t be attending since she wants a more urban school but in 4 years it may be a strong contender for my current 8th grader who loved the campus.
