high school prep

is there any prep programs for sophmores?
there's alot for juniors and seniors but im still a sophmore ):
what can i do in order to prepare for architecture?
what kind of courses should i take beforehand?
what would help me get into a top architecture school?

Studio art, 2D or 3D. Start working on your technique and your portfolio.

Many schools do not accept portfolios, for those schools you need the tyoical SAT's, AP courses and EC's. For schools that require portfolios you need to provide creative work. Art classes and sketching are the best evidence of this. I would avoid drafting class work, or work from summer architecture courses. I think they would rather have a creative blank slate.

rick

I've asked this question to EVERRRRY single college rep that's visited my school.

They always suggest:
- LOTS of art
- math (4 YEARS! DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS THAN THAT!!)
- physics <-- at least 1 year. I emailed 2 colleges, Wash u & cornell, and both suggested AP Physics (a 'b" in that class would be worth more to them than an "a" in normal physics... IDEALLY, an "A" in ap physics would be best haha)
- ap art history has a portion dedicated to architecture!! at my school, it's a pretty intense class but it should be fun! :)

oh and about art, draw from life! Do NOT always draw from photos. they like being able to see still life + figure drawing. :)

thank you so much for your advice!
i was wondering which math class i should take next year and it'll definetely be ap physics (:

fix up science class not math -_-

bumpppp

So AP Art History would be good if I want to major in Architecture? Should I take it instead of AP Bio?

I'm already signed up for AP Physics and AP Studio Art (Drawing) next year - junior year.

I would say so. Really, what does AP bio bring to the party when you're already signed up for another (more relevant) science course?

Yea, that's what I thought. I already took Bio Honors - it's not like I haven't taken bio yet....and even then, bio isn't all that important for someone who wants to major in Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.

definetly take art history. a lot of architecture programs will require art history, so you might be able to get ap credit and not have to take the basic art history survey class in college. if your college won't take the credit at least college art history will be a lot easier for you!
