High school record/course difficulty

I do independent studies with a private school and although you probably could take an AP course, I have never heard of anyone at my school doing it. Then again, hardly anyone is ambitious. I was thinking of turning my Honors Calculus course into an AP Calculus BC by taking the test at the end of the school year. Would that look weird on my transcript? I mean, if you were an adcom and you saw no AP courses, no AP courses, and then 1 AP course in fall of senior year, would that look weird? I do take honors courses...

They would think you showed initiative and self studied for it. You can explain in your “additional info” section of the Common App if you want to (“self studied for AP Calculus BC test” or whatever).

The problem with this is timing. You’re a current sr, so admissions decisions will come long before you take the test and get a score. So you need to do more than only take the test to demonstrate that you’re learning the AP material, you need some sort of official indication on your transcript or the SSR.

Of course taking the test is fine for getting credit or placement, it’s just that it will be too late for admissions purposes.

I recently received my “proficient in Calculus” badge from Khan Academy  haha

But obviously that’s not the same thing.
