Hi, I am currently a Junior and thinking of a research idea to conduct with a professor (who I still need to find). I’m very interested in human behavior but more on a medical side rather than psychiatrist/psychologist side. I have no idea what profession actually merges these two things. I am interested in a sort of predictability of human behavior and it’s manipulation (by manipulation I don’t mean it in a bad/evil way). I’m also interested in Tuerettes Syndrome and Alzheimer’s related studies. I’m pretty confused because all the mumbo jumbo I like and want to present to a professor as a future research idea doesn’t exist as far as my googling has shown. Does anyone here have any helpful insite to my dilemma?
Brain and Cognitive Science maybe? Neuroscience? Neurology? See if you can find an expert to spend 15 minutes with you to teach you the correct vocabulary to put into your searches. Libraries have medical dictionaries.
Do you know about using google scholar? Also PubMed? If you live near a medical school, perhaps try getting an appointment with a medical librarian.
It is not surprising that you don’t have a research idea to present to a professor that you do no know yet on subject you have not studied yet.
College students have a challenge finding a research opportunity. Professors are going to work with their students first.
Talk to your science teachers or GC…see if they have any ideas. Talk to your parents and see if they have any friends that know anyone.
Contact professors at nearby colleges and ask if they have opportunities.
Look for summer programs for research.
