High school research programs?

Hi,
I’m looking for research programs open to high school students. I know this is probably the wrong place to post it, but I am actually looking for programs that allow to to conduct research over the school year, NOT the summer. As such I didn’t post this in the summer programs place. Please don’t shoot me (or flag this post).
obviously since it is over the school year I can’t go far from my home. I’m looking for programs in LA(I live in the South Bay).
Does anyone know of a program like this?

thanks.

Did you get a response? I know of an online research program with college professors called “Pioneer Academics.” Should be the first result on Google.

no luck with local universities(USC has one for a magnet school that I don’t attend, thats it.)
Do you know the tuition? seems interesting but finance is always an issue.

@sumguy I think it is run mostly through high schools so you should see if yours participates, but I know some students who have found the SHARK/SEAL research project for solar technology interesting.

Here’s a place to start: http://thesolararmy.org/

Dunno anything more about it as our kid’s school organized it and then selected participants by application.

Here are some well-known ones. They are very competitive, though.

  • MIT RSI
  • NIH
  • Johns Hopkins APL
  • Simons Summer Research Program
  • Garcia Summer Research Program

@juju612 Do you you what the intended research outcome is for some of these programs? For example, do they complete a research project, paper or other related result?

I would suggest as an EC you put together a website of all that you have found to share with other students. This question often comes up and nobody has an answer.

Also as your teachers and GC if they know anything.

@Chocolate-Taco I’m pretty sure only RSI ‘guarantees’ a research paper. It is hard to say for these programs, as research isn’t simply writing a paper - you need to find something worth writing about (a scientific discovery). If you do well at any of the research programs I listed, however, you should have something to write a paper about.

Word. The one I mentioned above, The Pioneer Research Program, makes completing a research thesis the goal for the program. So many great options for ambitious students interested in research!

Since you want to do research during the school year and stay close to home (South Bay), this option seems perfect for you:

The application deadline for the program though was June 15. Maybe you can do it next year? or ask the program administrator if you can submit your application late?
