High School Science Courses

I am a high school freshman, but I still attend junior high school. Today, I went to “buddy day” to find out more about the high school that I will be going to next year. I plan to take sciences courses as my electives, and I am interested in environmental science and biology. I know that I will take AP biology and AP environmental science, along with classes like botany, zoology, and ecology. I am not very interested in physics, so should I take honors and AP chemistry or honors chemistry and honors physics? I cannot take APs without taking the regular or honors course in the subject first. Is it expected that students will take biology, chemistry, and physics, or is it more important to pursue my interests?

In "The Gatekeepers" it said that adcoms look for "the trinity" of bio, chem, and physics.

Also, at a Brown info session, the adcom said that it's important to take all 3, and taking bio, chem, and AP bio isn't the same in her eyes.

But honestly, if you do well in whatever you take, I doubt it would affect you that much. Take what you want to take, and don't give in to college whoring.

If you haven't taken physics yet though, I wouldn't write it off. I've taken several classes that initially, I had no interest in, but once I got into them, I found out that I didn't really know what the subject was all about in the first place.

I will difinitely take AP Biology and AP Environmental, along with other science courses. My main interests are in the environmental sciences. How would this be? (7 science courses, taking up the 3 years of required science, plus 4 elective credits)

1 Biology H
1 AP Biology
1 AP Environmental
1 Chemistry H
1 Physics H
1 AP Chemistry
0.5 Botany
0.5 Ecology

Looks pretty well rounded. Try to take physics later in your high school career, like in yuor junior or senior year. Guessing you want to major in science in college?

don't be a whore

Sorry, I didn't mean to seem like a "college addmissions whore". I am just really excited about the classes that I will be taking over the next couple of years, and I am trying to decide which classes I would enjoy most, while keeping in mind that I should take certain science courses (bio, chem, physics). Has anyone had good/bad experiences with the more specific sciences courses in high school (ecology, botany, etc.)?

i've taken 2 years of bio, one ap bio, 2 years of chem and this year i'm taking college prep chem, i've taken 2 years of physics too, but for the chem and physics, i really don't think i've learned much compared to AP people...
