Online AP Calculus BC course

My school is pretty small (only offers 14 AP courses) so I don’t have many options. I maxed out what math courses the school offered so they had to provide me with an online AP Calculus BC course so I guess if colleges see that on my transcript that could be a good thing? Bad thing is that the online course wont be factored into my GPA since it isn’t being taught by a teacher at the school :-< so it’ll only appear on the transcript. I think I’lll still be able to take the AP in may though.

Anyways, I’m really nervous because I’m seeing people on here taking very rigorous schedules senior year and I don’t really have that opportunity but I also wan’t to get into the top colleges and I feel like this could hinder me? I mean, I have two periods with no classes at all :expressionless:

Your schedule will be evaluated in the context of your school, so if you’re taking the most rigorous courses offered by your school, then you’re in good shape! You go to a school that doesn’t necessarily offer every AP and admissions counselors will know that when they look at your application. Also, your gpa from senior year doesn’t count for much, so that the online course isn’t factored in shouldn’t be a concern.

High school should not be about racking up as many AP credits or classes as possible. Better schools are moving away from AP classes, thankfully, because they stymie instruction.

@lostaccount I’m just curious if colleges will see the online AP course I’m taking on my transcript. If not, then it’ll be taken in vain.

Yes, because the only reason to learn anything is to impress colleges. Sigh.

@mathyone My goal is to be successful and get a good job and that means getting into a good college so yes, impressing colleges is important. I never said it was the only reason to learn so don’t jump to conclusions.

I don’t understand what doesn’t look good. Like others say, you are doing well in the context of your school.

@bopper I didn’t know colleges took into consideration the courses in the context of your high school, that’s why.

Your schedule is excellent. The only thing that’s missing is Level 4 or AP in a foreign language, but you may have completed that senior year. If not you can take College Level 3 SUPA in that foreign language for one semester.
(Colleg level 3 = high school level 4).
