I’m currently ending my senior year, and I will likely end up going to Penn State for engineering this fall. I didn’t apply to Georgia Tech freshman year because I lost time and didn’t become interested in engineering until later. I’m looking at the transfer profile for 2015 at Georgia Tech and the overall GPA was 3.6, math and science GPA was 3.6, and the acceptance rate was 33%. Sadly the acceptance rate has dropped substantially over the past few years from 42% in 2011 and 40% in 2014 to 33% in 2015. As someone who is interested in going there, I’m worried that my chances are going to be rough. I’m going to try my hardest to get the best gpa in college, but there’s no guarantee of course. If I get about a 3.7 gpa at Penn State then transfer to GA Tech for sophomore year will I have a good chance? Also, how competitive is the biomedical engineering program to get into at Georgia Tech?
Penn State is a great engineering school - unless you’re a Georgia native looking for instate tuition, I wouldn’t worry about Penn State at this point. I know Penn State likes to say that one out of every ten engineers is a Penn State alum. It’s a great school too, give it a chance!
A 3.7 GPA at Penn State would probably give you a good chance, but don’t write off Penn State so quickly!
