I'm a high school senior who has began the application process for college. My intention since freshman year was to be a film production major, bot now I've rethought that, since writing is my true passion. Therefore, I've now decided to double major in Screenwriting and English. Despite wanting to major in screenwriting now, I also have a moderate interest in production, and would appreciate a screenwriting program that has a few production classes at its disposal. The only colleges I've encountered with programs like that were Chapman University, USC, and NYU. Are there any other colleges that come to mind with programs that would tailor to my needs?

There are only a few schools that offer an u/g screenwriting program that I know of. Many more are available in MFA programs. You might in addition check English departments with strong creative writing programs that offer screenwriting and writing for theater courses. The usual suspects are Hamilton, Emory, Colorado College, NYU, Columbia, Iowa, Brandeis, etc., but you’ll want to ascertain that there are screenwriters and drama writers in residence the semesters you will be there.

Most colleges won’t have a separate screenwriting major but may have screenwriting classes and film majors. You can also look at Wesleyan, Emerson, Columbia.
